We’re a data-driven omni-channel business operating across 9 different markets in Southeast Asia with a special focus in ecommerce (our platform is built in-house!). The data team builds and maintains data management and AI capabilities to power both customer-facing services and internal data products. We manage a large-scale data platform in Google Cloud, relying heavily on BigQuery, Kubernetes and Terraform.
The data team is looking to hire a proactive, commercially savvy Manager, Data Engineer to make sure all our data users - be they analysts, end users or AI-driven systems, have access to the right data at the right time, and ensure its accuracy. You will play a key leadership role in the data team. You will be agile, adept at both work with Head of Data to shape up our data strategy but more critically work with the data team to realize the strategy, plan, build and ship data products, be a hands-on technical leader who will provide mentorship to the team, be an excellent culture ambassador both within and outside the team.

1. Build and scale the Data warehouse
Integrate data from various systems and platforms into the data warehouse. You will build scalable, reliable, test-driven data pipelines that ensure consistent, structured and reliable data for the organization.
Identify improvements to existing data architecture and data flows
2. Design and own the Data Schema
Design the Data Warehouse schema, ensure extensibility, clarity as new data sources are continuously integrated. You will oversee data reliability to build overall company trust in data to be more data-driven.
3. Engineering Leader
You will promote and ensure technical excellence within the team. You are passionate about culture and quality of engineering, strive to continuously improve quality and delivery of the team. You will support automated data infrastructure, upgrade monitoring and security initiatives.
4. Enable other functions & Teams
You will enable data science initiatives, supporting the data pipelines, API development, deployment and such. You will actively look for opportunities for better leverage of data to better the organization.
5. Team Player
Provide individual and team leadership and technical knowledge to the data team to ensure they grow their capabilities. You will identify and improve as a team, both technical and non-technical productivity impediments. You will represent the team to other stakeholders with the technology team and beyond.
We would love to hear from you if you have…

  • Degree of a quantitative nature such as Computer Science/Data Science/Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Engineering or relevant experience
  • 5 years of working experience and particularly with BigQuery and/or any Data Science experience and experience managing a team in agile manner would be great
  • Technical proficiency at least a few of Python, Golang, Node
  • Expertise in SQL, Data Modelling and Data Warehouse structures is mandatory
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and cross functional stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with building or working with Big Data flows and Pipelines, and understanding of size and performance constraints is highly valued.
  • Experience with Cloud Services and Data Warehousing services (Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud) is highly valued.
  • Entrepreneurial at heart and able to work in a fast-paced environment with company members and third-party vendors from highly diverse backgrounds.
  • You are a natural mentor and have a sense of knowledge sharing and focus on individual personal development
  • In addition, you have
o Good understanding of columnar databases
o Experience in building software as a team
o Understanding of distributed data processing frameworks like Apache Spark or Beam
o Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools
