The Materials Engineer will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and maintaining all material specifications and selections for FPSO topsides and hull systems. The role ensures that materials used in construction, fabrication, and installation meet project requirements, international standards, and service conditions such as corrosion, temperature, and pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and review
Material Selection Diagrams (MSD)
and
Material Specifications
for piping, mechanical, and structural systems.
Ensure all materials comply with
project design requirements
,
client specifications
, and
international codes and standards
(e.g., ASME, ASTM, API, NORSOK, ISO).
Provide
technical support
on material selection, corrosion control, and welding/fabrication procedures.
Participate in the
review of vendor documentation
, ensuring materials meet design and quality requirements.
Evaluate and approve
material substitutions
,
deviations
, or
equivalencies
proposed by vendors or contractors.
Work closely with
Process, Mechanical, Piping, Structural, and Corrosion Engineers
to ensure compatibility of materials across disciplines.
Support
procurement activities
by preparing Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations, and vendor qualification assessments.
Review and manage
MTO (Material Take-Off)
and ensure consistency with project BOMs.
Ensure proper implementation of
coating, painting, and insulation
systems according to project corrosion protection strategy.
Assist in the
resolution of site material issues
, including non-conformities and material failures.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of
of relevant experience in materials engineering within the
oil and gas industry
, preferably with
FPSO or offshore projects
.
Strong knowledge of
offshore material standards
, including ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, NORSOK, and DNV.
Experience with
corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA)
,
duplex/stainless steels
,
welding qualifications (WPS/PQR)
, and
coating systems
.
Familiarity with
EPC project execution
, including design, procurement, and fabrication phases.
Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
* Proficiency with
engineering databases
and
3D design tools
(e.g., AVEVA, SmartPlant Materials) is an advantage.
