Position Overview



The Materials Engineer will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and maintaining all material specifications and selections for FPSO topsides and hull systems. The role ensures that materials used in construction, fabrication, and installation meet project requirements, international standards, and service conditions such as corrosion, temperature, and pressure.


Key Responsibilities



Develop and review

Material Selection Diagrams (MSD)

and

Material Specifications

for piping, mechanical, and structural systems. Ensure all materials comply with

project design requirements

,

client specifications

, and

international codes and standards

(e.g., ASME, ASTM, API, NORSOK, ISO). Provide

technical support

on material selection, corrosion control, and welding/fabrication procedures. Participate in the

review of vendor documentation

, ensuring materials meet design and quality requirements. Evaluate and approve

material substitutions

,

deviations

, or

equivalencies

proposed by vendors or contractors. Work closely with

Process, Mechanical, Piping, Structural, and Corrosion Engineers

to ensure compatibility of materials across disciplines. Support

procurement activities

by preparing Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations, and vendor qualification assessments. Review and manage

MTO (Material Take-Off)

and ensure consistency with project BOMs. Ensure proper implementation of

coating, painting, and insulation

systems according to project corrosion protection strategy. Assist in the

resolution of site material issues

, including non-conformities and material failures. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of

material technology developments

,

corrosion mitigation methods

, and

industry best practices

.

Qualifications & Experience



Bachelor's Degree in

Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering

, or related discipline. Minimum

8-10 years

of relevant experience in materials engineering within the

oil and gas industry

, preferably with

FPSO or offshore projects

. Strong knowledge of

offshore material standards

, including ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, NORSOK, and DNV. Experience with

corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA)

,

duplex/stainless steels

,

welding qualifications (WPS/PQR)

, and

coating systems

. Familiarity with

EPC project execution

, including design, procurement, and fabrication phases. Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams. * Proficiency with

engineering databases

and

3D design tools

(e.g., AVEVA, SmartPlant Materials) is an advantage.
