What the role is:

As an intern in MTI trade, you will be part of a structured internship programme which provides you with unparalleled access and insight to the field of international trade. Beyond your individual internship project, you will gain exposure to broader cross-cutting issues in trade such as the digital economy, sustainability and geopolitical contestation, while expanding your understanding of bilateral, regional, and global economic cooperation. As part of your internship experience, you may be given the opportunity to have a front row seat to witness trade negotiations in action as we advance Singapore\'s interests in international markets, which will be further complemented by regular engagements with MTI senior management, trade officers and other interns in both formal and more informal settings. What you will be working on:

Food corridor with India and/or other South Asia markets (Emerging Markets Division) Food security has become a topic of interest, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where supply chains were impacted due to border closures and lockdowns. Singapore is extremely dependent on imports for our food needs, and this will likely remain the case for the next decade or two despite our 30-by-30 vision. While import source diversification is one of our core strategies and has worked well for us thus far, countries are increasingly starting to look inward by prioritising their needs over international trade. There is therefore a need to explore other models of food trade to safeguard Singapore\'s food supply. This project will require our intern to find out how other countries are tackling food security issues, and brainstorm how we can adopt these/new measures with our partners in the South Asian market in our bid to strengthen Singapore\'s food security. We may also explore multilateral collaborations, such as the I2U2.

What we are looking for:

Explorer mindset. Prior experience in project management would be helpful, but is not required. Availability: 8 weeks in June to August
