About the Role


We seek highly motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as a Principal, Risk and Structuring Solutions. Reporting to the Manager Risk and Structuring Solutions, you will be part of a small, dynamic team that works with our Commercial functions to deliver innovative solutions to enable social and financial value. This role will include:
  • identification and leveraging of risk and value drivers present in BHP’s commodity portfolio and relevant commodity markets;
  • analysis of complex commercial challenges and design impactful, integrated solutions that enhance the value of the underlying portfolio;
  • collaboration with regional and global teams on the formulation of solutions that support both procurement and sales strategies and relevant strategic initiatives; and
  • building of relationship with external financial institutions, exchanges, brokers and internal commercial teams to enable business growth.

Core Accountabilities
  • Develop new structured financing and risk management solutions that enable commercial strategies through value creation, risk mitigation, and optimization of working capital and supply chain constraints.
  • Provide expert advice on working capital, trade and commodity financing and other solutions to Commercial teams, working closely with key stakeholders and support functions.
  • Contribute to the development of sales and procurement strategies across BHP’s portfolio through advice on optimal structures to leverage BHP’s commercial risk appetite.
  • SME and single-point-of-contact (SPOC), leading and representing Treasury on commercial funding matters across Asia, particularly in relation to China.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant panel banks, brokers and exchanges to facilitate delivery of required solutions.

About You


  • Strategic thinker with balanced analytical and creative approach, with high learning agility and capacity to operate at both strategic and tactical levels.
  • Financial valuation and risk management expertise spanning working capital, credit risk, product risk and other risks relating to commodities trading.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience working in finance, risk management or trading disciplines, with a good conceptual grasp of risk-adjusted value
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal frameworks applicable to BHP’s commodity portfolio and marketing entities.
  • Collaborative with superior ability to bring people from different disciplines, internal and external, together to achieve desired outcomes
  • Experience in corporate treasury, commodities or banking is preferred, with specific experience in structuring finance or hedging solutions to be an advantage
