Overview of the Opportunity

ArtScience Museum is recruiting for a Producer, Education & Engagements within the Programmes team. This post is part of a growing education team and will take an active role in contributing to education and learning content development and engagements with core stakeholders.

ArtScience Museum is the cultural institution in Singapore that explores the intersection between art, science, technology and culture. Since opening in February 2011, we have staged large-scale exhibitions by some of the world\'s major artists, including Leonardo da Vinci, Salvador Dal\xc3\xad, Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh, and M.C. Escher, as well as showing work by contemporary artists including Theo Jansen, Lynette Wallworth, Ryoji Ikeda, Yang Yongliang, Semiconductor, Olafur Eliasson, Anish Kapoor, Mariko Mori and many more. The museum has also presented significant exhibitions that explore aspects of science, including big data, particle physics, natural history, marine biology, cosmology and space exploration.

Featuring 21 gallery spaces totaling nearly 5000m2, our lotus-inspired building has staged major international exhibitions in partnership with renowned museums and galleries around the world, including the British Museum, Science Museum in London, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, CCCB in Barcelona, the Ambrosiana in Milan, Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, the Australian Centre for Moving Image in Melbourne, and many others. We also originate and produce exhibitions in-house, and run a full programme of education, events, activities and learning opportunities for a wide range of audiences. The Programmes Department is responsible for developing and implementing a full programme of engagement, education, events, activities and interactive opportunities for a wide range of audiences.

These include:

  • ArtScience Cinema, the museum\'s dedicated film programming which is a dedicated platform for filmmakers and artists exploring the intersection between art and science using moving image, video and film.
  • VR Gallery, that explores the technology and the evolving creative practices around that medium.
  • Talks-based events such as conversations and conferences, bringing together industry leaders for insightful presentations and sharings.
  • Special events such as partnership festivals, topical or thematic events or pop-up exhibitions, or seasonal programmes delivered in collaboration with industry partners.
Job Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Senior Manager, Programmes and Director, Programmes, Exhibitions and Museum Services (PEMS) to research, develop and execute relevant and meaningful onsite educational offerings such as educational group visits, workshops and projects that are closely aligned to museum\'s mandate ensuring that they meet or exceed current best practices in museum-based education/learning.
  • Produce educational resources and communication materials for schools and corporate audiences that are relevant to our local, regional and international audiences.
  • Line manage and train the team to deliver new and/or updated education programmes and tours.
  • Support the Senior Manager, Programmes in the implementation, review and update of education programmes.
  • Assist in teacher surveys, collecting feedback, curriculum research and programme updates.
  • Maintain regular communications and an effective working relationship with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Working closely and effectively with other teams and departments, such as Marketing and Communication for publicity purposes etc.
  • Ensuring adequate staffing and resources via scheduling and deployment of team members for various engagements whilst looking after team\'s welfare.
  • To lead on the development and maintenance of meaningful long-term relationship with schools through engagements such as teachers\' network, work attachments and community engagements.
  • Develop, manage, and adhere to volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of service through proper recruitment process, orientation, training and special programmes for museum volunteer guides.
  • To deputise for the Senior Manager, Programmes when required. Other duties as directed.
  • Conduct reviews and work with the team to develop online educational programmes that are locally, regionally and globally relevant.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential
  • A Bachelor\'s Degree/Diploma in a relevant field of study e.g. education and/or museum studies.
  • At least three years\' content development and delivery experience in a formal, non-formal or public education setting.
  • Experience working with schools in Singapore with a good understanding of various curriculum models used by Ministry of Education and International schools.
  • Experience or demonstrable interest in developing educational resources; designing and delivering online and onsite workshops; planning and delivering online and onsite education events.
  • A proactive and effective team player with the ability to work effectively with and line manage a diverse range of people from all ages.
  • Line management and budget management experience.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English (essential), and at least one other spoken language/dialect (desirable).
  • Competent in using technology at work such as MS Office, online services and communication portals for administrative work.
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in high volume or stressful situations, to manage and execute numerous tasks with competing deadlines using good judgment and discretion.
  • Proactive in being continually aware and updated about changes to ArtScience Museum.
  • Able to work on weekends and public holidays, when required.
Preferable
  • Strong awareness and interest in the arts-based Public Programmes and Education in Singapore.
  • Interest in art-science, arts, science, technology, museums and galleries
  • Previous volunteer management and training experience or similar.
  • Good network of contacts in the local education sector.
