Job Description

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS) is a school of the College of Science. It was established in 2002 with the mission to make a strong contribution to biological and biomedical sciences. Research areas at SBS include infectious diseases, immunology, neurodegenerative diseases and telomere biology and genome function. Since then, many talented individuals from around the world and Singapore have joined SBS as scientific leaders, and researchers.

The lab of Assistant Professor Xiao Tianshu is looking for a motivated project officer. The Xiao lab is focused on understanding viral-host interactions, specifically the membrane fusion process. The lab is interested in designing innovative model, tools and platforms to visualise this process. The lab uses multidisciplinary approaches ranging from biochemistry, virology, drug discovery, preclinical animal modelling, with a special interest in structural biology (Cryo-EM and NMR). The candidate would be in charge of day to day running of the lab and purchasing. He/she will be involved in experiments that will pinpoint novel antiviral drug inhibitors, as well as actively involved in structural determination of viral fusion proteins.

Preparing reagents including SDS-PAGE running buffer, SDS-PAGE gel, autoclaved medium, agarose gel running buffer, etc

Experiments including plasmid prep (maxi- and mini-prep), western blot, electrophoresis, protein expression and purification, etc

Job Requirements

Bachelor degree in biological sciences or relevant field. Those with no experience are welcomed to apply

Experience with molecular cloning

Experience with mammalian/insect cell culture

Experience in virology, cell biology or drug discovery is a plus

Team player with good communication skills
