Job Description


Job Purpose

1. Rate & surcharge negotiation with carriers for port-port rates and nominated accounts

2. Responsible for responding to tenders/contracts from local, regional & global customers

3. Provide leadership in the areas of product & business development to achieve target carriers\xe2\x80\x99 adherence

4. Develop and maintain relations with ocean freight carriers; Country guidance and support

Accountabilities

Customers \xe2\x80\x93 New and Existing

  • Responsible for pricing and responding to tenders and RFQs from regional and global customers
  • Interface with customers to provide product and market expertise
Regional Buying
  • Negotiate and maintain competitive FAK rates
  • Establish country\xe2\x80\x99s requested rates with carriers (for named accounts requests)
  • Understand country\xe2\x80\x99s needs and negotiate specific requirements with target carriers e.g., space protection / allocation, free time on demurrage and detention
Country OFR Organizations
  • Provide leadership in the areas of product and business development to achieve target carriers\xe2\x80\x99 adherence
  • Establish regular market information to countries (Update on latest changes in surcharges and market situation)
  • Support ASPA countries on rates and carriers\xe2\x80\x99 related issues
  • Communicate with overseas offices on day-to-day issues
  • Guidance and training for countries to create awareness of the trade throughout the region
Management
  • Monitor weekly lifting and monthly budget reports which shows countries\xe2\x80\x99 performance and target carriers\xe2\x80\x99 adherence
  • Monitor key accounts\xe2\x80\x99 performance, rates and resolve any space/equipment issues
  • Develop and improve assigned trade lanes by research and innovative action as well as strategic planning
  • Ensure efficient flow of information concerning carriers\xe2\x80\x99 activities and market development to management
Global OFR Carriers in Asia Pacific
  • Develop and maintain relations with global ocean freight carriers
  • Discuss and initiate actions to solve problem e.g., space or equipment constraint
  • Negotiate competitive rates for FAK, named accounts & surcharges and buying incentives
  • Obtain updated information from ocean carriers on latest rate implementation
  • Establish targets with carriers & monitor volume performance
  • Set up space protection with target carriers
  • Quarterly meetings with target carriers (QBR)
Skills & Qualifications
  • Tertiary Education
  • Min 2-3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience
  • Good knowledge of ocean freight products
  • Good negotiation and communication skills
  • Problem solving skills: Analyze problems effectively and find the best solutions
  • Possess in depth knowledge of carrier\xe2\x80\x99s functions
  • Acquired knowledge in general shipping matters (e.g., Operations, customer service, documentation, claims, clearance, etc)
  • Possess basic Logistics/Supply Chain Management knowledge
  • Well versed in software knowledge (words, excel, power point, etc)
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin
  • Ability to communicate in different dialects or foreign languages is an added advantage
