Job Description

UWCSEA East is looking for a Relief Drama Technician from March/April 2023.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Production Manager and working under the supervision of the Theatre Technical Manager, you will be required to:

• Assist the production manager to plan and build set elements and props for Drama productions and classroom performances.
• Ensure safety regulations and proper working standards are always kept in and around the workshop.
• Quarterly stock taking and inventory check of all raw materials and construction equipment.
• Proficient in woodworking, basic metalwork, mold making, fabrics, painting and spraying.
• Handling and moving of large and heavy materials (scenic elements, raw materials loading and unloading of containers and transportation trucks).
• Assembly and disassembly of all scenic elements.
• Work under minimum supervision and to initiate, plan and take responsibility for projects and activities within the theatres.
• Assist in executing the technical requirements of each production in the areas of Staging and Lighting.
• To rig, check, and focus lighting equipment and set up equipment for rehearsals, changeovers and performances.
• To multi skill, assisting in other disciplines as required and undergoing training to facilitate this.

Person Specifications

• Extensive experience in professional Theatre, with extensive experience in staging and lighting.
• Excellent communication skills and experience of working with designers. A sympathetic approach to creative concepts and the ability to realise the requirements of Designers and Directors.
• The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including understanding and responding to visual, oral and written instructions and to be self-motivated and work well as part of a team under minimum supervision.
• Ability and confidence to work at height using appropriate access equipment (Scissors and Vertical-mast lift) safely.
• An open mind to new and different ways of working and the ability to acquire new skills when needed.
• The ability to work calmly under pressure.
