Job Description


The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a FULL TIME (42 hours a week), 12-month contract (subject to possible renewal) at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), . We are looking to hire a Research Assistant to work with an existing team of researchers to collect data (video, audio and surveys) across a variety of subject areas, to do data coding, school liaison, data analysis, report writing and other tasks as required by the Principal Investigators.

Project Title: Phase 1 of CORE 4 Research Programme: Baseline Investigations of Designated Subject Domains (DSD) Pedagogies in Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s Primary and Secondary Classrooms (C4P1).

Project Introduction: Broadly, the Core Research Programme aims to provide a systemic measurement and modelling of curriculum and reform initiatives and pedagogical practices in a representative sample of Primary and Secondary schools in Singapore. This project is in its fourth iteration and Core 4 continues to investigate what makes the Singapore education system successful, as well as recommend pedagogical innovations for improvement. Thus, a central task of the CORE programme and this project is to examine the shifting nature of the instructional core of teaching and learning, which makes it imperative to provide an updated baseline data and evaluation of pedagogies across a range of domains in the various streams from a representative sampling of primary and secondary schools.

Requirements

Essential

  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree from a reputable University.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred
  • Experience in using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)
  • Experience in using qualitative data analysis software.
  • Experience in classroom observations and video data coding.
  • Experience in administering questionnaires, conduct interviews/focus group discussions in Singapore.
Responsibilities
  • Perform literature reviews and report writing.
  • Conduct data collection (questionnaire, student artefacts, classroom observations, focus group discussions, interviews), transcription, qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Perform project administration tasks such as scheduling and liaising with teachers and preparation of related materials.
  • Manage and archive research data.
  • Assist the Principal Investigators in writing papers and presentations.
  • Perform other assignments as determined by the Principal Investigator and co-Principal Investigators
