What the role is
The ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic development.
The Media, Technology and Society (MTS) Programme at ISEAS is now accepting applications for the position of Research Officer. The research officer assists in research projects and computational analysis on a range of social media issues. These projects examine the different ways social media and digital technologies are shaping diverse forms of political participation, collective actions and behaviours, and their impact on political systems and socio-economic life.
The Research Officer will have a 2-year term appointment.
[What you will be working on] Responsibilities Successful applicants are expected to:
- Monitor social media communications and activities for further analysis and review
- Assist researchers with quantitative analysis, programming, and statistical support
- Perform data acquisition, data cleaning, and other general research support and activities
- Assist in the editing of reports and publications by MTS researchers
- Provide administrative support in organising workshops and other activities under MTS, including writing summary reports
[What we are looking for] Requirements
- University degree in computer science, humanities, or social sciences (especially media studies and digital humanities) with knowledge in quantitative or computational analysis; an advanced degree would be an advantage;
- Familiar with social media platforms and analytics;
- Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript and SQL) and visualisation tools will be an advantage;
- Good communication and writing skills in English;
- Analytical and problem-solving skills and positive work attitude
