What the role is:School of Engineering - Research Staff (Ductwork Bolt Tightening Automation)[What you will be working on]Project Overview:Republic Polytechnic\'s School of Engineering is seeking a new full-time Research Staff for a 12-month employment contract to work on a newly funded project titled \xe2\x80\x9cDevelopment of New Assisted Bolt Tightening Systems for Ductwork Productivity\xe2\x80\x9d.This project aims to reduce labour-intensive ductwork and tiring manual work on large ducts, increase ductwork productivity and consistency, improve safety, and to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) for flange hole alignment detection.The most important proposed working prototype offerings in this industry-application project are the design, development and testing of the following 2 innovative bolt/nut/washer tightening setups include:

• Innovation 1: Handheld Setup with Pneumatic Bolt/Nut Tightening Device
• Innovation 2: Semi-automated Manually driven 4-wheel Roller Setup with Integrated Pneumatic Bolt/Nut Tightening Device

The project plan includes Conceptual Design, Prototype Development, Performance Testing in Labs, Implementation of End-users\' Feedback, Design Cycle & Prototype Improvement, On-site Testing & Optimisation, Product Scalability & Production, and Reporting, IP Licencing & Commercialisation.Key Responsibilities:

• To design, development and testing the working prototypes required for the project.
• To have working knowledge of an engineering design software (e.g., SolidWork, Fusion360, ANSYS)
• To do procurement of the consumables, equipment, and services in line with Republic Polytechnic\'s procurement guidelines.
• To do practical work and assembly of components, conducting experiments and to analyse the test data.
• To prepare technical publications, progress reports, final closure report, prototype documentations and presentation slides for the project.
• Liaising with manufacturers, suppliers, and visitors.
• Helping the principal investigator in engineering consultancy work for companies and writing new project proposals to submit for research funding.
• To assist in the supervision of the final-year students and interns.
• IP licence development for the commercialisation of the final working prototypes.
• Any other relevant duties as and when assigned by the principal investigator in this R&D project.

[What we are looking for]Candidate should have:

• Possess relevant qualifications in the field of engineering design, mechanics, structure, system control, materials, manufacturing, automation, AI, or IIoT-related disciplines.
• Have a strong interest in innovation, technology development, engineering design and hands-on work.
• Have working knowledge of an engineering design software (e.g., SolidWork, Fusion360, ANSYS)
• Self-motivated and work well in a team.
• Working experience in new product development & engineering design is considered as an advantage.
• New graduates & entry-level candidates are welcome to apply.
