Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
This role reports to the Associate Director, Finance and is responsible for all finance and accounting activities including Marketing & Sales (M&S) Operations in the Asia Pacific region, which includes execution of month-end close and balance sheet management under a strong internal control environment. In performing the duties, legal regulations, GAAP as well as operating procedures of Marriott Vacations Worldwide must be complied with.
Position requires strong collaboration with other team members and other departments, primarily M&S departments, in ensuring the day-to-day accounting functions under the Senior Accountant's responsibilities are operating smoothly.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
1. Accounting and Month End Close Execution
Ensure all financial closing timelines are met. Ensure overall processing integrity and accuracy.
Analyze monthly financials variances against prior month or prior quarter, forecast and budget.
Ensure all month-end close journal entries are prepared accurately and on a timely manner.
Ensure all financial transactions are well supported.
Clear understanding of financial transactions and results for all operating units within area of responsibility.
Recommend and implement improvements to the close process where possible.
Work with -Asia Pacific (AP) finance and US team to resolve accounting discrepancies and implement process improvements around the month-end close process.
2. Balance Sheet Management
Prepares schedules and reconciliations to support month end close balance sheet positions.
Ensure all balance sheet reconciliation are supported with adequate documentation.
Investigate reconciling items and ensure corrections are made, and all issues identified during the reconciliation review process in the next reporting period.
Improvise and standardize balance sheet reconciliations/schedules documentation across entities within area of responsibility.
3. St atutory Reporting
Manage completion of statutory reporting for entities under your responsibility area within timelines:
Audit, Tax (VAT/WHT etc.), In-country regulatory requirements. This includes propose/resolve any audit issues noted.
Ensure clear reconciliation and documentation between management accounts (US GAAP) and local statutory accounts.
Provide adequate support to Global tax team on various tax queries for your responsibility area (e.g. CIT).
Assist to manage quarterly MVWP-66 balance sheet certification for the region.
Assist with assessment on impact of new accounting standards on local statutory report
4. Cash management
Manage cashflow requirements of your responsible entities.
Coordinate funding requirements with Corporate Treasury and other Controllership teams to ensure optimal use of cash.
Ensure balances are reflective of entity function/transactions/structure; interco settlement are routed per entity structure and settled timely.
5. Internal Controls
Balance sheet reconciliations performed, and reconciling items cleared in the following month and ensuring account balances are correct and meaningful.
Document the nature and purpose of balance sheet accounts and the transactions flow though (i.e. accounting entries).
Favorable results of internal and external audit under your responsibility areas.
Develop and update SOPs/Job Aids regularly.
Assist in formulating processes and SOPs, if needed.
Perform internal controls checks on business/financial controls.
Work with Controllership peers in controllership process improvements and standardization of processes
6. Ad Hoc Support & Requests
Perform analyses on an ad hoc basis as required and assist on other accounting works as required by the business.
Participate in finance projects as the business requires such as standardized BS reconciliation process.
Strong collaboration and support business partners.
Demonstrates a high level of professionalism at all times.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Degree/ Professional Qualification in Accounting with at least 4-5 years post-qualification experience, preferably in US MNCs/audit.
Solid functional background in General Ledger Accounting
Experience with balance sheet reconciliations.
A team player with ability to collaborate with functional departments and external partners
Motivated self-starter, resourceful and independent
Good problem-solving skills
Keen eye for details with an aptitude for numbers
Well-organized and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively
Strong business integrity and holds sensitive information in confidence
Understands and possesses the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Ability to be flexible with job duties and scope of work
Enthusiastic individual with excellent organizational and communicational skills and attention to detail
Fluent in English (written and spoken) and other language skill advantage.
