What the role is:The Criminal Policy Division is part of the Legal Policy Group in the Ministry of Law. The Legal Policy Group plays a critical role in upholding the rule of law, advancing access to justice, and ensuring a sound and progressive legal framework. The Criminal Policy Division oversees law reform in the area of criminal law and procedure, as well as constitutional and governance issues that arise in the criminal context. These legal reforms impact the lives of many people, and further the broader goal of shaping a progressive, balanced and modern criminal justice system.What you will be working on:As a member of the Criminal Policy Division, you will be part of a team of highly motivated lawyers working on challenging law reform and delivering creative, yet practical, solutions to issues of national significance. This requires you to be familiar with current laws and how the justice system works, and to consider how laws can be updated to keep pace with evolving socio-economic needs and technological developments, whilst reflecting sound policy principles. You can expect to work with stakeholders and partners in the process of policy reviews, to develop creative and practical solutions to issues of national significance. You will also take legislation through the parliamentary process, from working with the Attorney-General\'s Chambers on legislative drafting, to engaging with and consulting experts and stakeholders, to providing support to principals for the introduction of legislation in Parliament.What we are looking for:*Key Competencies Required* \xe2\x80\xa2 [Domain Specific Expertise]: Develop domain knowledge to collaborate and/or co-create policy solutions with experts/professionals \xe2\x80\xa2 [Deep Critical Thinking]: Distil critical issues and sense-make from a wide range of information, arriving at effective policy solutions \xe2\x80\xa2 [Clear and Concise Writing]: Crystalise core issues via clear and concise writing \xe2\x80\xa2 [Design for Implementation and Communication]: Develop policy that factors in strategic communications considerations upfront, and has a grounded perspective of implementation considerations *Work Experience Required / Personal Traits* \xe2\x80\xa2 Basic law degree \xe2\x80\xa2 A minimum of 3-6 years\' post-qualification experience. \xe2\x80\xa2 A strong foundation in litigation and/or advisory work. \xe2\x80\xa2 Excellent writing and communication skills. \xe2\x80\xa2 A sharp, analytical mind. \xe2\x80\xa2 Self-motivation and discipline. \xe2\x80\xa2 Strong teamwork and ability to work with stakeholders. \xe2\x80\xa2 Comfort with ambiguity and a fast-moving environment. \xe2\x80\xa2 A passion to serve the public and make a difference to society.
