Job Description


The Senior HRBP, Asia Pacific, provides senior business partnering to all lines of business operating in the APAC region: Real Assets, GCG and shared services, leading the strategic people agenda. Nuveen has 6 offices across APAC: Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, China and South Korea, employing 80+ employees, working across multiple legal entities. Nuveen has grown rapidly in APAC and expects to continue to grow, adding further headcount and potentially further offices. This role works closely with our London based HR Centre’s of Excellence (CoE) in Compensation, Talent Acquisition, Talent and Learning and ID&E for Nuveen International to bring the full HR offering to the business; and collaborates closely with US, UK and LatAm HR Business Partners. Whilst this role does not have any direct reports, the London based HR advisors provide direct support to this role, alongside the other HRBP roles for Nuveen International.
A highly visible and influential role, responsible for ensuring the local regulated Boards are appraised of relevant HR matters and holding membership of the APAC Executive Committee, and the Europe/APAC Risk and Compliance Committee.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Drive the strategic people agenda for the Asia Paciifc region, ensuring that the HR priorities are directly aligned to, and in support of, business priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with APAC business leaders, providing thought leadership on organizational and people-related matters, and proactively resolve people and business issues with pragmatic solutions that minimize risk and financial exposure
  • Analyse current and future business needs and recommend new initiatives and processes to ensure continuous development of the people strategy and continuous improvement in HR services
  • Drive and support the development and delivery of cultural and organizational change initiatives
  • Seek to continuously improve our employee value proposition in the region, identifying learning and development needs and new employee benefits needs.
  • Work closely with business leaders, and HR CoEs to open new offices and hire staff in new countries throughout APAC
  • Manage all employee relations issues and employment law matters for the region, working with the US based employment law team and local counsel.
  • Guide the London based HR advisors to provide sound day to day people advice to employees and managers in the region

Technical Skills, Competencies and Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 7+ years of HRBP experience with global exposure, ideally in financial services
  • Minimum 3+ years experience living and working in the APAC region
  • Experience in setting up operations in new countries and emerging markets
  • Demonstrable business and commercial acumen
  • Excellent client management and consulting skills; skilled influencer and negotiator
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, fostering relationships across multiple functions and lines of business
  • Ability to solve complex problems and develop pragmatic solutions
  • Able to skilfully navigate a matrix organisation structure and multiple stakeholders
  • A high level of self awareness, empathy, diplomacy and confidentiality
