Department Overview: Linux Operations is a 7/24 x 365 service availability department responsible for providing 2nd and 3rd level support for our Linux environments. The primary focus of the Linux Operations team is to provide first-class incident resolution, contribute to problem resolution, and work with auditors along with other peers within the ITS organization as well as other technology partners. We are looking for a Senior Linux specialist who's a self-motivated and focused individual who enjoys a fast-paced environment requiring attention to detail and the opportunity to support Linux servers across the enterprise. The candidate must possess strong oral and written communications skills, with strong scripting (Bash and or Python) with an automation background. /Accountabilities: About This Role The candidate's primary responsibility will be to have the technical expertise to provide full end to end support of Linux and Hardware. They will have to work in three main areas: Run The Bank: (Operational and Incident work) Incident Process: Break/Fix OS and HW support, supporting and managing the Linux OS (RHEL/SUSE) and x86 hardware infrastructure servers (HP and UCS) as well as virtual servers implemented on ESXi, troubleshooting failures and coordinating resolution efforts to provide speedy and effective relief to our business partners. Participate in an on-call rotation, working with a highly skilled team in support of critical business environments. Problem Management Process: Participate in after the fact investigation, identifying root causes and helping formulate and implement remediation plans consistent with team objectives and client requirements. Research/analyze complex issues independently, provide expert guidance, solicit vendor and engineering recommendations and work with implementation teams on remediation. Change Management Process: Follow and champion change management procedures. ensure proper testing, sign-off, monitoring. Change The Bank: (Changes, engineering, development work) Identify opportunities for automation, develop, test and promote automation payloads. When opportunities present, join projects aimed at evolving the base infrastructure, deploying new technologies, or optimizing the operational environment. Influence project direction via cross-team collaboration and consulting, foreseeing operational issues and gaps, and proposing solutions Partner closely with stakeholders to improve production environment stability, ensuring timely and effective communication of possible issues/problems, options and recommendations for prompt resolution. Present meaningful metrics to support discussions about environmental performance. Participate in testing disaster recovery plans Collaboration and Communication (inter-teamwork, documentation, process improvement) Collaborate with partners to and ensure issues are clearly communicated and addressed consistently with their priorities, ensuring fluid collaboration between all parties Always stay current on policies, standards and processes, update team members on changes to them and ensures overall adherence both internal and external by actively championing organizational values. Document, reviews, participates, and implements procedures. The candidate must hold a range of advanced knowledge of Linux and eager to provide consultative support to other groups Job Requirements: Minimum 5-7 years experience as SME/expert Linux/UNIX infrastructure administration in an enterprise environment Working knowledge of: - SME/Expert Redhat OS (RHEL 6,7,8) system administration and support. - SUSE Linux OS -Clustering Technologies (GFS2, GPFS, PCS and Veritas) -Cloud and virtual technologies (VMWare ESX/vCenter, HMC) -Automation/shell scripting (HPSA/DCA, Ansible, Rundeck, VRA/VRO, Salt, python, perl, bash, Ruby, JSON) -Familiar with Cisco UCS, HP hardware -Understanding of SAN topology, working knowledge of LUN configuration -Networking fundamentals and strong network troubleshooting skills / OS side. ITIL Foundations preferred Familiar with Atlassian products such as Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket. Comfortable working in a rapidly changing, technically complex environment Demonstrates strong communications skills (written and verbal) Proven ability to effectively interact with individuals across business units and at various levels within the Bank (technical, business, including Management). Must be able to effectively represent the Linux operations team on escalated incident management calls from other groups within Operations Understands and adheres to well documented processes Experienced working with internal and external auditors on OS related request for information. Highly organized and possessing strong analytical skills Self-motivated, with strong sense of ownership and urgency to deliver in a timely fashion Specific Educational Requirements/Accreditations: College / University with emphasis on computer science and business or equivalent work experience.
