Position Summary: The Senior Manager, Public Policy Asia Pacific will be part of the GS1 Global Public Policy team, while working with the GS1 offices and colleagues in Asia-Pacific on a daily basis. The position will have responsibility for the execution of Public Policy activities that advance the GS1 Global and GS1 Asia-Pacific regional strategy. The Senior Manager will be part of a global team working with GS1 offices in close to 20 markets, regional intergovernmental organisations, and national governments on engagement in public policy and related cooperation. The Senior Manager Public Policy Asia-Pacific will have regional responsibility for matters related to GS1s' interaction with regulators, intergovernmental organisation, industry associations, and other stakeholders in the region. He/she will also work closely with the GS1 offices / Member Organisations of the region. Therefore, it is critical for the position that the candidate has significant and extensive work experience in the regulatory and public affairs environment in Asia-Pacific. In this role he/she will ensure that the benefits of global standards and the need for regulatory harmonisation are well explained to and understood by key stakeholders across the region. This role requires a passion for regulatory affairs and policy developments, and the ability to be a trusted and neutral partner to authorities and other stakeholders. Responsibilities Regulatory Monitoring - Identify and track legislative and regulatory developments at national and regional level in Asia-Pacific that influence the implementation of GS1 standards and recommend a course of action. Drive regional public policy engagement through strategic engagements with extended stakeholder community Monitoring and evaluation of collaboration and project opportunities with government, intergovernmental organisations and industry groups / trade associations Assist in the coordination of policy positions with GS1 member organisations in Asia-Pacific and coordinate with Global Public Policy team as needed Consult with CEOs and senior management of GS1 MOs to further the strategic priorities of GS1 Asia-Pacific Secure GS1 participation in key conferences, meetings, forums Represent GS1 at relevant conferences, meetings, forums Oversee the day-to-day activities related Public Policy projects and assist in developing and promoting stakeholder outreach campaigns. Position Requirements The Senior Manager must have strong collaborative skills, an international and collaborative mindset and willingness to proactively involve stakeholders from a wide range of countries and support multicultural working groups. He/she likely has sector specific experience in food, retail, e-commerce, supply chain logistics or working in government. Bachelor's level degree (required) in relevant field, such as business, engineering, public affairs, political science with more than 8 years of work experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills - confident presenter and public speaker Highly motivated and detail oriented, with the proven ability to follow through on short and long-term work streams Highly independent with little need for guidance and supervision Willingness to be part of a distributed team, meeting virtually, more than in person Comfortable learning about new technology and explaining it in a simple way for external audiences such as industry and government Thorough understanding of how trade associations and chambers of commerce in Asia function and how GS1 best collaborates and leverages result oriented collaboration Experience from APEC, ASEAN and other regional (Asian) and global intergovernmental organisations Extensive experience from work on government projects, consultations and other engagements with government agencies in Asian markets Understanding of government agencies and functioning in key Asian / Pacific markets e.g. experience from India, China, ANZ, Indonesia, Vietnam Fluent in English, working knowledge in additional major Asian language is very beneficial, especially Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia/Malaysia, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean or Japanese Willingness to travel 10%
