Job Description


Customer Solutions and Innovation (CSI) is a DHL's cross divisional commercial and innovation unit. We are responsible for managing DHL's largest and most strategically important customers. In a very competitive market, CSI work with our Business Units colleagues and provide value beyond what the customers expect, building stronger ties with Customer key decision makers. We focus on understanding our customer business and industry challenges and applying proven DHL solutions.

We are looking for a Solution Design Manager to:

  • Understand the industry and customer requirements
  • Uncover supply chain opportunities
  • Leverage DPDHL capabilities to design and develop solutions to meet customer needs



Principal Accountabilities

1. Pre-sales
a. Account engagement and development (Solutions perspective):

b. Discovery, solutions and Insights:

  • Be familiar with industry trends and account's development, with holistic view of customers’ supply chain
  • Achieve In-depth understanding of current (total) supply chain scenarios of target accounts and assess possible gaps / overlaps / alternatives / opportunities
  • Facilitate discovery meetings to build potential pipeline
  • Explore opportunities of XBU service offerings to differentiate DHL from competition
  • Advise customers on their realisable and optimal supply chain and logistics solution, whilst aiming for profit maximisation for DHL
  • Drive sector engagement plan to ensure sufficiency of "solution intensive" business pipeline for sector


c. Stakeholder Management:

  • Awareness of customer organization and their roles and engage esp. key solution decision makers.
  • Align and review regularly with sales leaders on sector engagement plan


d. Pre-RFQ positioning and RFQ advisory:

  • (Pre-RFQ) Assist through Solution-ing for relevant RFQs to differentiate DPDHL in upcoming bids
  • (RFQ) Ensure incorporation of (previously built) solution or value propositions in RFQ submission to differentiate DPDHL


2. Sales

a. Preparing the deal:
Solution Development:
  • Understand customer needs, identify DHL's value proposition, leverage Group's strength (esp. XBU service offerings), define solution strategy and project management approach, identify required resources, leverage on expertises, manage project/opportunity, develop quality solution proposals, and secure BUs' buy-in
  • Ensure stickiness and profitability of solutions.


b. Project leadership:

  • Steer as project lead for XBU opportunities; Support as advisory or workstream owners for SBUs opportunities
  • Organize team structure to work towards deliverables in required timeline, set objectives, timeframe and workstream allocation to team members
  • Guide juniors in solutioning skills, storylining, analytics, business acumen and stakeholders management


c. Closing the Deal:

  • Support closing with experience related to the prior solution designed or upstream discovery engagement.


d. Innovation and Knowledge Management:

  • Generate thought leadership in solution innovation for assigned sector / domain, especially cross BU solution offerings
  • Share best practices and develop/leverage relationships with sector/BU/Solution community


Knowledge, Skills & Experience



Functional

1. Supply Chain / Logistics Solution Design:
  • Good business knowledge of supply chain management, including distribution channels, total landed costs, international trade, supply chain metrics
  • Solution Design / Consulting / Process engineering experience
  • Undertaken sizeable supply chain design projects
  • Strong scoping skills (ability to size up multiple inputs, filter noises and pinpoint the objectives of projects quickly)
  • Strong storylining skills (focus on end-in-mind and ability to envision the approach and steps to deliver the message at start of project)
  • Highly developed analytical skills (highly efficient in analytics, sizing up data, charting to depict required message)
  • Experience deck crafting skills (ability to crystallize key message in every slides, effective usage of chartings, focus on quality of deliverables)
  • Good problem solving skills - critical thinking, minimum viable product


2. Project management & Executive Communication skills

  • Experience in handling cross BU, cross region, multi-function project with a mix of stakeholders, via project management methodology and efficient
  • Management of timeline and content input
  • Stakeholder management skills: ability to manage different stakeholders expectation and alignment
  • Communication & interpersonal skills, negotiation, convincing pitch, elevator speech, working with virtual teams
  • Excellent team player

3. Business Acumen and understanding of key financial and commercial principles

4. Understanding of E-commerce systems and processes


Geographical

  • Strong international exposure and cultural sensitivity

  • Creativity, innovation and ability to develop novel ideas and solutions (Thirst for continuous learning).
  • Willingness to travel (up to 25% of time)
  • Bachelor Degree/Tertiary Education in related discipline and 10-15 years of experience in related field OR Master Degree and generally at least 8-12 years experience in related field
  • Degree in Industrial Engineering / Engineering / Logistics / Supply Chain Management preferred
