JOB TITLE: SPECIALIST, MEDIA RELATIONS, ROA

JOB PURPOSE

Develop long-term regional media relation and PR strategy and chart out annual implementation plan in line with the global corporate communications vision and strategy and aligned with regional business strategy and growth aspirations for the ROA Region. Lead local implementation of the global media campaign and drive initiatives of media engagement in the region through the collaboration with the site communicators and the global media relations CoE. Proactively cultivate relationships with targeted external regional media organizations. Drive positive perceptions of SABIC Brand and Reputation as well as excellent utilization of media channels and relations to enhance SABIC reputation and to articulate SABIC Corporate Strategic targets & messaging, growth and achievements, thus maximizing shareholders value and driving long-term strategic objectives. Drive/provide integration of media across the region and lead on media commuications for mega projects (partnering with government relations), M & A & divestment, major external business and brand-building events including CEO/EVP visits to region. Support stakeholder management crisis communications across the region. Manage relationship with PR firm and lead on media tracking.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the media relations content deliverables (messaging, press releases etc.) by working with the global CoE, regional Marcom & Functions comms & site comms to ensure brand message is consistent, timely and relevant. Manage interfaces with Media and PR Agencies and process all related transactions in the region.
  • Responsible for regional messaging, create speeches, MC Scripts, talking points, messaging, factsheets and other media related materials as needed by working with agency or the global content team. Support team with programming and implementation of various events. Support integration of regional external stakeholder management. Induction of briefing materials to support responses from SABIC to media requests from journalists in the region (i.e. interview preparation)
  • Responsible for managing and updating regional media lists on an ongoing basis. Helping to ensure that all communications materials that may be of interest to the media are maintained up to date
  • Develop long term regional media relation strategy by functionally aligning with the global CoE, ensuring the coherence with the global communications vision and media relations strategy and aligned with regional business strategy and growth aspirations; Chart out implementation plan in collaboration with site communications, regional marcom & functions communications to fulfill both global communications strategy and regional business priorities
  • Collaborate with regional Marcom & functions Communications & site communications to execute media campaigns and support business partners in media planning and proactive media outreach for SBUs & CFs
  • First point of contact for SABIC corporate related media enquiries and handle media enquiries from journalists writing for media in the region. Ensure proactive media engagement and regular outreach in key markets to develop relationships with key media members to ensure ongoing coverage
  • Media training preparation of SABIC regional spokespeople for interviews in response to incoming media requests, including attendance at interviews in person where required by SABIC.
  • Support Crisis Management communication plans in the region by identifying crisis communication team members, training crisis Spokespersons, communicating to internal and external Stakeholders, developing holding statements and leading post crisis communication steps.
  • Keep abreast of global and regional trends and contribute strategic insights and advice into all regional & local media outreach developments and opportunities, to all relevant company leadership, internal customers and other stakeholders.
  • Develop, measure and evaluate framework for tracking the impact of regional media coverage. Functionally align with global CoE to drive the consistency on strategy expedition globally, proactively share the regional insight to contribute to global perspective building and lead the sharing of media relations knowledge and expertise to drive the excellence within regional team.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in a Communications / Journalism / Mass Media related field
  • Minimum 12-15 years' experience in media-related position in corporate communications or a leading PR client account or in the communications department of a multinational organization, experience in a journalism is a plus
  • Deep understanding and experience in managing media in the Rest of Asia countries, and experience in developing and delivering through an integrated campaign using earned media/social media, paid media partnerships and managing a PR agency retainer account is required
  • Experience of B2B business preferable but not absolute, manufacturing and crisis comms
  • Excellent English language skill on both oral and written communications
  • Strong interpersonal skill
  • Ability to influence higher management
  • Ability to cope with the complexity caused by the culture difference, changing environment, etc
  • Leadership in driving projects and motivate team collaboration
