Job Overview

TE Connectivity\'s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp.

The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Tyco Electronics Singapore Pte Ltd (TE Connectivity) is looking for an R&D Scientist/Engineer to join our R&D Center. The Scientist/Engineer will be part of a specialized simulation and modelling team, collaborating with R&D team members, business unit partners as well as local university and government research centers to undertake projects that will embed simulation in TE\'s design and process development work flows to deliver a competitive advantage to TE\'s technologies. This position is based at our Singapore HQ.

The Singapore R&D Center is chartered to work with the CTO\'s of TE\'s Business Units to identify technical areas of interest for R&D and develop the technologies that will impact all segments. In order to improve the New Product Development process, TE is expanding the upfront simulation and modelling capabilities, as a part of our Digitalization strategy to improve efficiency, decrease cost and reduce time to market.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead projects to create multi-physical (mechanical, thermal, electrical etc.) models that target TE product design and manufacturing process development
  • Evaluate, develop and apply multi-physics solutions using commercial software and cutting-edge numerical methods, as applied to TE problem areas
  • Create awareness across TE of the modelling and simulation capabilities of the Singapore center
  • Work with local and global TE sites, and external customers and vendors, to address urgent or strategic needs
  • Partner with Singapore research institutes to develop advanced simulation techniques.
Job Requirements
  • Master\'s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) plus 5 years working/research experience
  • Keen interest in R&D involving simulation, modeling and data
  • Deep understanding of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and FEA (finite element analysis)
  • Understanding of topology optimization, adjoint solver and other optimization algorithms
  • Proven experience with modelling using simulation packages, preferably with Ansys, Fluent, CFX, OpenFOAM
  • Programming skills in C++, Fluent User Defined Function (UDF), Ansys APDL, OpenFOAM
  • Hands on experience with SpaceClaim, Creo, DesignModeler or similar CAD tools
  • Familiarity with project management and strong communication/presentation skills
Preferred:
  • Broad knowledge of different materials\' mechanical, electric, thermal properties, including polymer, metal and alloy
  • Understanding of data science and machine learning
  • Broad knowledge of TE products, such as connector, cable, sensor, catheter, microfluidics etc.
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes (molding, extrusion, Additive Manufacturing, plating, stamping, assembly etc.)
  • Hands on experience with Moldex3D, Moldflow, Polyflow, Simufact, Digimat
