DHL Express Global Head Office has an opening for Strategic Customer Pricing Manager. The role purpose is:

  • Provide detailed profitability analysis and yield improvement recommendations for nominated customers and countries at request of Pricing Excom, GMB, Regional Boards, Commercial Excoms, etc.
  • Take a leadership role in the development and negotiation of creative pricing strategic plans for specific large and complex for CSI/MNC/National customers where known profitability issues need to be repaired or opportunities for profitable growth exist but require a very detailed pricing proposal.
  • Manage the red and yellow card program via the creation of specific criteria, management of data and customer target lists, provide regular status updates to Pricing Excom and GMB, and liaise with regional pricing to ensure timely actions and implementations.
  • Act as costing SME within pricing for management of the pricing CPK process, various costing data updates and advise Pricing Excom/GCP on costing-related issues.


YOUR TASKS 1. Provide detailed profitability and yield improvement recommendations for nominated customers and countries.
  • At request of various internal customers, provide high-level and concise, annotated analysis on profitability at multiple levels - from customer to global
  • Provide strategic and actionable recommendations to retain and grow revenue while improving profitability.
  • Present, explain and justify analysis and conclusions to relevant stakeholders - country SMT, sales, pricing, etc.
  • Use data analytics available in Global BI tools such as GSMART, C360, etc to identify profitability improvement opportunities.
2. Lead the development of creative pricing proposals for individual customers
  • Recommend customers for deep-dive analysis and strategic pricing actions based on data analytics and reporting.
  • Manage large amounts of data from multiple sources to understand why profitability issues are occurring and identify opportunities to resolve them.
  • Produce detailed and creative pricing plans to resolve margin issues, retain the customer and grow the business.
  • Prepare concise internal and external documents/presentations to explain and justify pricing recommendations.
  • Liaise closely with GCP and Tender to ensure compliance to existing processes and approval chains.
3. Manage the red and yellow card program
  • Based on GMB mandates, manage 2-3 waves of red and yellow cards per year.
  • Manage the RYC Manager software to manage data, create criteria, generate draft lists, release waves to countries and ensure timely actions and follow up.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Express EBIT via new red and yellow card workstreams.
  • Implement a robust follow up process to ensure promised actions are implemented and deliver the expected results.
  • Manage maintenance and future development of the RYC Manager software.
  • Work closely with country pricing/sales teams to ensure clear and actionable proposals are prepared.
  • Attend customer presentations/meetings to put forward pricing proposals and act as pricing expert in front of customers (some travel may be required).
  • Provide follow-up and impact analysis to relevant stakeholders.
4. Act as costing SME within Pricing
  • Become subject matter expert on costing, profitability and the algorithms used by INSIGHT X.
  • Participate in the production of pricing CpKs for use by various pricing tools such as GSRT, Papaya.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to the pricing community on costing/profitability data and develop a wider understanding within pricing of the nuances of costing and margin information.
  • Support global and regional initiatives which include a costing/profitability element, e.g. green card pricing, walkaway analysis, etc.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an analytical, financial, or marketing function (ideally, in a Costing or Pricing function in a cluster or region is preferred).
  • Minimum 4 years’ DHL Express experience in pricing handling pricing offers, multi-country pricing offers is preferred.
  • Experience coaching or supervising people is advantageous.
  • Outstanding analytical skills with strong business perspective.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - both internally with DHL colleagues and externally with customers.
  • Advanced company/industry knowledge at Regional and/or Global perspective.
  • General knowledge of DHL processes, products and systems landscape, with special focus on billing, costing and pricing matters.
  • Ability to work independently and leading/coaching other pricing members; results and respect oriented; ability to manage to deadlines and under stressful situations, as well as make decisions on pricing proposals.
  • Strong PC skills, particularly the capability to analyse large volumes of data in MS-Excel and/or MS-Access.
  • High level ability to manage, analyse and filter very large data sets to actionable outcomes, e.g. using SQL, Python, etc.
  • Medium to high level for presentations and negotiation skills.
  • Openness to work in an international/multicultural environment.
  • Some travel may be required (<10%).
  • University degree with strong analytical background (e.g. Business Administration, Finance, Economics), Master’s degree is preferable.
