What you\'ll do

The purpose of the Tax Operational Excellence Specialist APAC role is to provide critical support for the delivery of tax compliance activities in the region, manage tax operations and effective delivery of Group Tax\'s activities involving collaboration and input with global teams and process owners, identify process improvements and help implement solutions, ensure compliance and reporting processes are delivered in an accurate and timely manner and drive discrete processes relating to tax operations with key stakeholders outside of Group Tax.

This role (a 6-month maternity cover) will primarily support the Marketing business unit in APAC, proactively work with the stakeholders to ensure that we anticipate and keep up with the rapid pace of change. The key jurisdictions include Singapore and China, but there will be opportunities to support other APAC jurisdictions.

Performance & Delivery

Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Manage the tax compliance obligations of Anglo American in Singapore, across all taxes (CIT, GST, incentive reporting, Domestic Top-up Tax and similar taxes). This includes working with the group\'s chosen compliance outsource provider (where relevant).
  • Manage similar obligations for China across all taxes, to the extent such activities can be performed outside China
  • Coordinate the preparation and filing of any global or local transfer pricing obligations, in collaboration with the central transfer pricing team and tax Business Partners
  • Lead the branch profit allocation calculations for the relevant Marketing entities, in collaboration with counterparts from the UK and the local tax Business Partners
  • Manage the Group\'s internal tax reporting requirements, and support engaging with auditors where required.
Process and Technology
  • Seek out opportunities to improve processes, systems and technology, as well as exploring and recommending solutions
  • Provide tax advice on system design and configuration to support business change
  • Responsibility for the continued development of the compliance processes to ensure they continue to meet best practice, identifying opportunities to utilise technology and best practice processes
  • Manage the implementation of tax automation opportunities as well as supporting globally run tax technology projects, managing the implementation of changes to process, controls and systems, while developing and monitoring appropriate controls for the region
Governance, Risk and Controls
  • Support the control of the tax risks including specifically the obligations under the Tax Risk Management Policy and the operation and maintenance of the the Tax Control Framework and the tax controls within the Internal Control Financial Reporting program
  • Assist in the development, monitoring and application of appropriate controls for Marketing APAC.
  • Support the assessment and application for any cooperative compliance programmes in the region
Tax Authority Management
  • Working with the local tax Business Partners, contribute towards maintenance and enhancement of relationships with the IRAS, Enterprise Singapore, and Maritime & Port Authority.
  • Manage tax authority correspondence and coordinate responses to audits on all routine matters, whilst working with the respective subject matter experts and business partnering team as required.
Projects
  • Provide support to tax Business Partners on special projects, particularly within area of tax operations expertise.
  • Support the identification and analysis of relevant changes in the tax regimes as they relate to Anglo American and the provision of advice on their application to Marketing APAC
  • Support training operational staff on pertinent tax matters
  • Support the operational tax projects complementary to the effective management of tax compliance. Support on projects which relate to the operations of the Group tax Team.
Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • University degree in a relevant discipline preferred
  • Chartered Accountant and/or Chartered Tax Adviser
Technical Knowledge:
  • A solid working knowledge of Singaporean tax principles, including corporate income taxes, GST, and transfer pricing
  • Ideally an awareness, knowledge or experience of Chinese tax principles
  • Working knowledge of other international tax principles is desirable
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, data analytics and automation applications
  • Some experience and knowledge of tax process design
