Core Objectives of the Non-Executive Talent (NET) Team
Ensure Temasek Portfolio Companies (TPC) are guided and led by competent, well-constructed, future-ready Boards to navigate a challenging and uncertain environment
Enable robust set-up of new Platform Companies with appropriate governance and competent leadership at early stages of growth
Identify, Track, Build and Engage with an extended Board-ready talent network to support existing and emerging requirements of the Temasek Operating System
The Role
Work as an integral part of NET team in support of core activities, to help Temasek fulfil its institutional objectives as an investor, institution and steward
Board Governance, which includes:
Conducting Board Reviews and Board Gap Analysis on portfolio companies\' boards to enable meaningful engagement with Chairs and NomCos around optimal board construct and governance
Staying abreast of global developments in Corporate Governance e.g., regulatory changes, Sustainability, ESG and DE&I related trends - translating these into implications on Board review process
Owning the necessary endorsement/approval processes, to ensure compliance to relevant Temasek policies, including:
Temasek\'s Directorship framework
Employees\' external appointments policy
Board Talent identification, which includes:
Engaging with investment teams to understand companies\' forward looking business challenges and leadership requirements from the Board
Driving thought leadership and research to understand and build a robust pipeline for future Board-ready talent
Guiding junior members of the team in conducting research
Board Advisors\' Network management, which includes:
Tracking and supporting review of Temasek Strategic Networks
Driving the research to identify, track, assess, engage talent for diverse needs
Guiding and managing the Advisory talent life cycle
Board and C-level Engagement and Networking events:
Direct responsibility for organising various engagement events. These include various Portfolio Company Board engagement events, potential directors\' networking events, etc.
Continuous enhancement and improvement of internal team effectiveness, which includes
Participating in technology enhancement initiatives to support effective functioning of the team
Enhancing knowledge management and intelligence capture to drive value-added analysis and advisory on Board talent
Ideal Experience and Qualities
Undergraduate Degree from a reputable institution
10 to 12 years working experience. Prior experience in HR and leadership advisory, executive and board search, senior talent acquisition, senior talent management, or management consulting preferred. Strong topical interest or knowledge in Board governance and leadership issues would be advantageous.
Deep analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to organize complex data sets
Business-oriented, intellectually curious and forward looking in mindset
Agile in thoughts and actions - able to connect-the-dots and draw strong logical connections between business issues, requirements and actions
Proactive and takes initiative - has a problem-solving mindset
Solid IT skills and conversant with the use of search engines and databases (e.g., LinkedIn Recruiter, Microsoft BI or Tableau)
Excellent and confident communication skills (both written and spoken)
Team-oriented, ability to work well with people within and outside the team, and across a matrixed organization. Willing to lend a hand in helping fellow teammates where required
Self-confident with the ability to interface with senior management and various external parties in coordinating NET events and activities such as trips, functions, etc.
Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task
