Job Description


:
The APAC Estimator is responsible for the development and maintenance of estimates and cost targets for all datacenter builds in region and support globally. This role will be concentrated on Data Center projects and forward-looking technology cost Estimating as the overall role. The Estimator will manage all cost estimates, cost data, communications, schedule meetings and be a point of contact between internal and external parties for specific programs, projects or regions being supported. The Estimator will work closely with engineering, construction, procurement, security, networking, and operations teams throughout each project and ensure cost information developed and managed meets the requirements of those specific project needs. The Estimator will report directly to the APAC Regional Estimating Manager and will have daily interactions with the other Regional groups and the Strategic Estimating group.

Specific Job Tasks:

  • Manage and develop Estimates and cost analytics for the region
  • Develop market data and tracking for Regional trends
  • Support the development and updating of existing and new technology Plans of Records
  • Provide regular report-outs and reviews with partner teams, internal teams and senior leadership regarding the scope, schedule and budgets for the projects or programs assigned
  • Support the ongoing updates of the Campus and Regional Cost targets as it pertains to the APAC region
  • Develop all front-end Estimates for new and emerging technologies for the region
  • Participate in all Internal Estimate Reviews as well as specific External Estimate Reviews when required
  • Partner will all groups at Microsoft that touch or interact with our Datacenter build projects, ensuring alignment along all sectors in the development and review of estimate provided for datacenters or special program

Responsibilities


Core Responsibilities:
  • Estimate the cost of Microsoft datacenter and special projects to support the short- and long-term plans for the corporation
  • Partner collaboratively with cross-functional teams (design engineering, construction, cost controls functions, scheduling, finance, etc.) to understand requirements and ensure alignment to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Develop and maintain estimating databases and templates specific to the role and locations
  • Report out to senior managers on estimate data, project cost progress and assumptions to ensure a clear and concise message is sent and understood
  • Perform different types of estimates and projects, while keeping delivery dates and capacity as a top priority
  • Support, develop and improve estimating processes and procedures
  • Drive standardization and consistency throughout the region and group by managing all estimates and processes with continuous improvement in mind

Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:
  • Must possess a clear understanding of the full Construction Life Cycle
  • Capability to perform all forms and types of estimates from parametric to bottoms up and high level what-if scenarios.
  • Possess and demonstrate a full range of understanding and appreciation for the Estimating process and how that process ties to the overall organizational goals
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills beyond estimating practices
  • Understand and be able to review and discuss plan drawings, P&ID’s and One-Line diagrams
  • Understand the impact of time and location on construction costs and accurately incorporate those costs into any estimate provided
  • Develop, maintain, and report out on project/program scope, schedule, and budget with cost as the main driver in those conversations
  • Ability to present using and have a full knowledge of the MS Office Suite, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
  • Creative thinking, written, and verbal communications skills
  • Cross-group collaborator and influencer across teams and organizations with proven success in participating in cross-functional teams to deliver on key projects
  • Able to work within a dynamic team of full-time employees and consultants
  • High personal standard to deliver a thoughtful, polished, and quality deliverable
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines simultaneously


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience in Construction Cost Estimating as a Lead Estimator or Senior Estimator
  • Shall have knowledge of and perform to the following industry standards and practices: ASPE, CSI, AACEI, RICS
  • Can clearly set and lead meetings to review and discuss estimates or estimating activities
  • High level of understanding of the global economic conditions and how those conditions would affect the work being completed and the associated costs of said issues
  • Possess multi-discipline experience and understand and be able to estimate all facets of a datacenter construction project (CSA, Mechanical, Electrical, Telecom)
  • Past work history in Pharmaceutical, High-Tech or Industrial projects; datacenter industry a plus
