What the role is:Reporting to MPA\'s Hydrographic Division, candidate will be part of our team of maritime professionals whose responsibilities are to ensure safe navigation in Singapore waters by providing hydrographic, cartographic and aids to navigation products and services.What you will be working on:Officer is required to perform duties at the five lighthouses operated by MPA. The lighthouses are located on offshore islands (including Pedra Branca and Pulau Pisang, Malaysia) and on mainland Singapore. The officer will work in pairs with an assigned partner. The manned lighthouses are scheduled daily for routine checks to ensure they are functional to ensure navigational safety in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore while the unmanned lighthouses are scheduled for monthly cleaning and maintenance.During his rostered 10-day shift at the offshore lighthouses, he is responsible for ensuring that the light equipment is in working condition and he may be required to perform simple maintenance task. This involves climbing up stairs with stores to the lantern room atop the lighthouses (up to 30 metres high). He will also be required to take care of the surroundings and this could include trimming of trees, clearing of pathways and housekeeping. For unmanned lighthouses, he is required to carry out housekeeping and cleaning works.A vessel is used for transportation to the lighthouses, the officer is required to cross over to jetties via ladders, landing steps or rope ladder for access. The officer will be required to transfer stores between the vessel and jetties during the transfer. Additionally, accessing Pulau Pisang Lighthouse requires walking up and down a 100 metres hill with elevation.The boat ride is about a 4 hours journey to Pulau Pisang and about 45 minutes to Raffles lighthouse.What we are looking for:Officer is required to be physically fit in order to perform these activities.About Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore:"The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore\'s strategic maritime interests.
