Company Overview
Methodist Girls' School was founded in 1887 by Sophia Blackmore, an Australian missionary sent by the Methodist Episcopal Church in America to establish a school for girls in Singapore. MGS is a full school: the Secondary School was granted independent status in 1989 while the Primary School remains an aided school.
The school see as her mission `to educate every girl in a Christian environment To Master, To Grow and To Serve in every phase of her life'. The school's vision is to nurture girls in being and becoming `Godly Women of Excellence with a Heart of Love'. The values of Godliness, Excellence and Love are nurtured both formally and informally through the culture of the school. The school motto `To Master, To Grow, To Serve' reflects the lived expression of her identity, values and purpose. The motto emphasises understanding and knowing deeply and working hard to achieve mastery even when it is challenging; being curious and humble, willing to step out of one's comfort zone; and giving generously and sacrificially to meet the needs of others, knowing that as one serves, one also receives. There is a strong Christian heritage and ethos and the girls are encouraged to learn with purpose and serve community, Singapore and the world.
