Position Purpose: Recognizing External Innovation opportunities and participating in scientific evaluation activities to complete due diligence activities, championing and presenting opportunities to our Company’s senior leadership, building effective coalitions of support across the global organization and then working with deal teams to negotiate and execute transactions, across Asia Pacific-Japan-China (APJC) region. Organizational Scope: Building a stronger External Innovation and Search and Evaluation capacity is critical for building our Company's R&D portfolio and deliver on our Mission and Vision. Primary Responsibilities: Participates in our Company's efforts in searching, evaluation, due diligence and execution of business development opportunities in strategic focus areas for Women’s Health indications and solutions for unmet needs.

  • Contributes to the analysis of the full range of external data and co-leads the cross-functional review or due diligence on inbound licensing and business development opportunities.
  • Closely keeps informed and collaborates with appropriate teams in Clinical, Commercial, Alliance Management and Corporate Business Development (BD), with the overarching objectives to ensure strategic alignment between activities and perspectives on needs relating to the R&D pipeline.
  • Manages an external network and portfolio of projects as the primary scientific contact and spokesperson for potential licensing, acquisition, collaborations and strategic alliances.
  • Co-responsible for the scientific quality of the formal due diligence output, integrating internal and external subject matter expert input and for senior management review and approval.
  • Works closely with Transaction Leads, Legal, Commercial and Financial Analysis teams to ensure relevant R&D deals of highest priority are being advanced and executed.
  • Displays a natural leadership style allowing efficient cross-functional communication and interaction across all levels in the organization whilst at the same time being a strong team player.
  • Develops and maintains a strong network of Women’s Health stakeholders with connections across the academic, biotech and VC ecosystem.
  • Represents the organization by internal and external presentations related to the Company’s ambitions to build a innovation driven R&D portfolio.
  • Traveling up to 25%, across the region, is needed.
Reporting and Representing:
  • Provides thorough and timely assessments and updates to enable reporting to the respective Company Franchise Teams and other Senior Management and Governance Teams to ensure efficient communication and seamless cross functional collaboration.
  • Represents R&D BD Search and Evaluation as appropriate on cross-divisional Business Development and Licensing governance teams, as appropriate.
  • Ensures comprehensive, prompt, clear and concise recording of Search and Evaluation activities and decisions in the appropriate customer relations database to enable continuity through institutional memory.
  • Drive for a company culture of scouting and Business Development mindset in all employees.
Education Minimum Requirements:
  • MD or PhD in a life science discipline (preferred).
Required Experience and Skills:
  • At least 10 years of experience in Biotech or Pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years of applicable External Innovation experience.
  • Broad-based scientific knowledge across women’s health therapeutic areas.
  • Understanding of basic science and R&D technologies as applied to the drug discovery process.
  • Strong networking, organizational, administrative, analytic, computing skill and sound judgment.
  • Ability to influence decisions or issues that have broad business impact.
  • Inspirational communication and leadership skills.
