ABOUT THIS JOB
NielsenIQ is looking to hire a lawyer to help us negotiate contracts for the Asia Pacific region which is a diverse and exciting region and is also very busy. The lawyer would be based in Singapore and would be involved in a diverse range of transactions including, drafting and negotiating agreements with clients, retailers, suppliers, and others in the Asia Pacific region. Geographically this area covers North Asia (Japan and Korea), South East Asia and Australia, and New Zealand.
This role will support our client service teams operating in the consumer and retail measurement businesses and provide ad-hoc advice to a multitude of stakeholders on a daily basis in a timely manner. This will also include providing support to internal support functions like human resources and finance as well. Experience in M & A work will be advantageous. The person will need to be able to quickly appreciate the fast-paced nature of the industry and the corresponding depth or complexity of the advice sought and respond accordingly (or provide guidance). Having a well-established precedents database means that the person is expected to quickly navigate within the set precedents and adhere to the global drafting standards. Typical contracts would include Master Services Agreements, License Agreements, Supplier Agreements, Third Party Access Agreements, and Non-Disclosure Agreements. The lawyer must be comfortable with a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
The lawyer will report to and interact regularly with Chief Regional Counsel (Asia Pacific), other company legal personnel, and client service and finance teams across the region to ensure that contracts and the negotiation processes meet the needs of a dynamic growing business and an expanding client base. Excellent writing and communication skills (both contract drafting and the ability to explain legal provisions to non-lawyers) are essential for the job, as is the ability to work independently and to learn the business quickly in order to identify key issues and priorities. The ideal candidate will be able to formulate creative solutions to resolve negotiation sticking points and bring deals to a prompt close. An ability to apply a commercial mindset to legal advice would be highly favored. The candidate needs to be mature and able to work independently with minimal supervision but be sufficiently experienced to know when to escalate matters to the Chief Regional Counsel or to the appropriate business leads depending on the matter. No knowledge of foreign law is required but some experience handling common law jurisdictional matters for the Asia Pacific region would be beneficial.
The lawyer should also have a good knowledge of privacy laws and data protection legislation including PDPA and GDPR.
The lawyer will be required to support corporate functions in compliance and corporate governance matters including advising on and investigating matters together with HR and Finance functions.
