The Role Responsibilities

Job Summary

Effective brand partnerships and use of global platforms are a significant driver of Standard Chartered\xe2\x80\x99s brand and business objectives, anchored in our brand promise to be \xe2\x80\x98Here for Good\xe2\x80\x99. The Bank has recently extended its main club sponsorship of Liverpool Football Club and Liverpool Women\xe2\x80\x99s Football Club (\xe2\x80\x9cLFC\xe2\x80\x9d) until 2027. We also sponsor nine Standard Chartered marathons across our markets, develop other partnerships to support our Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking business (\xe2\x80\x9cCCIB\xe2\x80\x9d) and are engaged in an ambitious global external and internal events programme across customer, corporate and employee audiences.

As Global Head Sponsorship and Events, you will have direct responsibility for developing, leading and overseeing the global sponsorship and events strategy. LFC is our marquee sponsorship and our ambition is to create and deliver a long-term strategy to leverage the partnership and its assets to drive brand awareness, positive engagement, and commercial opportunities across the life of the new term. Many of our marathon partnerships have existed for several decades with an opportunity to refresh our approach and harness the global collective of marathon sponsorships. There are also other sponsorship opportunities for CCIB clients which can be developed into a clear strategic programme with robust impact measures.

For our global marquee events our aim is to develop and lead the team who can deliver these events to the highest standard - bringing creative and commercial thinking to each event to ensure Standard Chartered is distinctive, on brand and delivering our key messages to target audiences.

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Define and lead Standard Chartered\xe2\x80\x99s global sponsorship and events strategy to maximise business and brand objectives, impact, consistency and efficiency.
  • Partner with senior leaders across CABM and in to the business to drive awareness and understanding of effective partnership strategies.
  • Ensure our sponsorship and events are aligned with our Sustainability aspirations and Stands
LFC Sponsorship
  • Direct and lead the LFC partnership relationship, managing the LFC contract terms, engagement with LFC management / other teams and effective co-ordination of plans.
  • Direct and oversee the activation strategy, campaigns and budget to achieve business objectives, including the use of all LFC assets.
  • Champion this marque sponsorship across all businesses and functions of the bank to build and maximise awareness, pride and leverage of this global partnership
  • Work with CABM and business leads to identify and drive commercial opportunity across relevant markets and business segments.
  • Drive innovation in the partnership, including re-imagining hospitality capabilities at Anfield to provide elevated brand experiences and consider new commercialisation opportunities leveraging Anfield, digital media and TV broadcast.
  • Partner with the CABM Insights, Data & Analytics team to develop a robust measurement framework to demonstrate impact and benefit of the sponsorship across all activities.
  • Effectively allocate and measure the activation budget to deliver on agreed sponsorship objectives.
  • Evolve employee and community programmes to maximise impact, awareness and fundraising.
Marathons
  • Build a global strategy and platform for our marathon sponsorships.
  • Review opportunities for Standard Chartered marathon branding to be high impact and globally consistent across the race portfolio.
  • Ensure new plans are built out for race opportunities, in partnership with market CABM teams where relevant.
  • Oversee amplification plans, including opportunities to maximise coverage in earned media.
Other partnership opportunities
  • Oversee the development and delivery of additional sponsorship or brand partner strategies with a sharp focus on ROI.
Events
  • Oversee the strategy and delivery for marquee events to ensure impact, consistency and efficiency.
  • Engage with all stakeholders for key events to ensure clear communication, robust timelines, budget management and exceptional execution.
  • Support any ad hoc large scale regional or country events as agreed with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support internal events as needed, including global townhalls and other key events for the Management Team and Chairman
Processes
  • Work collaboratively across CABM teams and the wider bank to lead on a consistent, joined up approach to sponsorship and events strategy and activation.
  • Be accountable for any processes where a member of the Sponsorships & Events team is the identified process owner and continuously improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
Business
  • Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic, market and regulatory environment within which the Group operates. Understanding of the Group\xe2\x80\x99s business model and how we operate at a global and regional level.
People & Talent
  • Develop the team to build capability and ensure delivery of the function\xe2\x80\x99s short and longer-term objectives
  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with key partners in the business.
  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people, and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
  • Responsibility to review team structure and capacity plans.
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives

  • Identify, report and escalate issues, risks, business intelligence to leadership
Governance
  • Ensure that tone of voice, messaging, and branding are aligned with the corporate narrative and brand guidelines when we engage and communicate internally and externally.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • At least 15 years experience of global marketing and brand campaigns
  • Expert knowledge of sponsorship strategy and activation best practice
  • Extensive experience of developing and delivering successful sponsorship strategies and global activation plans across all channels and platforms
