Roles & Responsibilities The role will report to the APAC CIO. This leader will partner with the company’s technology leaders in Head Office (HO) and across various internal and external constituencies to transform the company into an industry leading, customer-centric engagement model, which promotes automation and operational efficiency.
The Head of Digital, APAC will contribute to and implement the digital strategy for the APAC region, in order to improve and enhance the client experience. S/He will drive digital transformation projects resulting from the defined strategy in this area. S/He will interact with the APAC Group’s customers, federate the management of the different existing entities, drive the projects with the support of internal resources and interact with the respective technology stakeholders in HO on all digital related subjects. In addition, the Head of Digital, APAC will propose, develop, and implement a partnership policy with external players of all types (startups as well as large digital corporations).
This individual will help define and align, as appropriate, the business process and digital platform strategy and be responsible for envisioning and delivering an integrated and seamless digital customer experience across web, tablet, and mobile. The digital capabilities will also facilitate the enhancement of emerging channels, businesses, processes, and products.
Primary areas of work include (but are not limited to) the following:

Key Accountabilities/Duties

  • Industry & Opportunity Adoption - Apply new technologies (e.g. IoT, Cloud, Analytics, Mobile, P2P, etc.) to the shipping industry, identifying commercialization and disruption opportunities, leveraging industry leading practices, latest technologies, and innovations into business opportunities
  • Interact with the APAC Group’s customers to identify digital expectations (both for current activities as well as for potential new business models)
  • Enhance the company’s customer experience
  • Education & Awareness - This person will be the Digital Evangelist across the organization and will be responsible for educating the business in new technologies, platforms, and business models, establishing collaboration networks for knowledge sharing and to connect diverse talents and perspectives, both with client-facing team members and key partners
  • Evaluate the digital maturity of the Group and identify the leverage necessary for internal transformation
  • Leverage best practices and deep subject matter expertise in digital transformation, including the intersection of digital technologies, innovation, and articulation of the value that such technologies brings to solving complex business problems or enhance customer satisfaction
  • Contribute to the Group’s Digital Transformation in this area and achieving rapid progress in planning, developing the necessary tools and implementing the plan with a goal of the company being viewed as an industry leader in Digital innovation
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships (commercial or equity) with external players (platforms, e-commerce, start-ups)
  • Implement a technology watch and a regular status report on the market players
  • Support the digital partner network and, where appropriate, oversee the company stake in digital start-ups
  • Propose internal and external communication on the Group’s digital transformation, aligned with the strategic vision
  • Create appropriate internal conditions to support the Group’s digital transformation and participate in the internal digital training strategy
  • Implement KPIs with a regular reporting system
Academic qualifications, experience and other requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required from a well-respected school; an MBA or another advanced degree is preferred
  • Professional experience of at least 10 years, of which at least one successful experience in the digital domain
  • Business / Technology Hybrid - Broad acumen to develop best-in-class digital strategies that increase cross-functional collaboration (modernizing platforms and processes to enhance engagement levels), customer intimacy (better interpreting or deriving insights from data and analytics) and workforce agility (ensuring commitment to transparent information flows and frequently measuring results)
  • Technical skills in the digital domain: data science, infrastructure, cloud, etc.
  • Agile - Dynamic, can quickly establish or adjust to changing objectives within a fast-paced, results-oriented, always-on, 24x7 global environment where priorities are constantly shifting; strong navigational wherewithal to thrive amidst ambiguity
  • Knowledge of e-commerce and digital marketing
  • Consensus Building - Proven success in leveraging influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes without formal authority inherent in command & control organization structures
  • Experience heading digital transformation projects with significant impact on the company’s growth
  • Change Agent - Has demonstrated he / she possess the requisite conviction, tenacity and influencing skills to achieve change, overcoming pockets of resistance as necessary towards realizing significant changes to a current structure or set of processes
  • Team Player - Focuses on broader organizational goals as opposed to his / her own agenda, leads by example, and naturally gives credit to others; outstanding communication skills, can quickly inspire trust and earn respect from others
