The Economist is a leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs, published weekly in print and tablet editions, and daily through our Espresso app and Economist.com. Currently we are seeking a HR Manager (6-month, renewable) to provide operational HR and talent development support to leaders and employees in our business.

How you will contribute:

  • Provide HR advice and support to business leaders and managers to ensure consistent approach to a wide range of people and employment issues
  • Work collaboratively with the wider HR function to ensure consistent and effective Economist Group HR operational delivery for India office.
  • Provide professional expertise and support in the design, development and implementation of the talent review process that is required to achieve business goals and results in the creation of an internal bench of top talent.
  • Collect, analyze and maintain data gathered to inform targeted leadership development (e.g., succession planning).
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning
  • Develop, initiate and maintain effective programs for workforce retention, promotion and succession planning.
  • Utilize resources to assess current and prospective talent’s ability to meet the needs of the business.
  • Collaborate with HR Team to implement programs for senior management, middle management, and non-management.
  • Provide development support and coaching to the leadership of the company

The ideal skills are:
  • Minimum 6 years HR generalist experience in a company which is known for good HR practices
  • Experience of working in a global environment with working knowledge of India operations and compliances
  • Experience in a technology and/or media company preferable
  • Knowledge and skills in at least three or more areas below: organizational design, succession planning, performance management, business consulting, culture transformation, compensation and rewards, employee engagement, coaching/development, talent management, data analysis, employee relations.
  • Ability to learn, adapt and advise with ease

You will be able to demonstrate:
  • Strong computer skills with competency in Microsoft Office, Google suite, Excel
  • Fluent English, both spoken and written essential for effective working relationships globally (other languages would be helpful but not required)
  • Sound, thoughtful judgment about people and situations
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively
  • You are self-sufficient, self-motivated and proactive
  • Able to work independently but also within a collegiate atmosphere
  • Excellent communication and networking skills to gain the respect and trust of colleagues quickly
  • Ability to lead directors of The Economist Group businesses as well as managers and employees
