Summary
The objectives of the position are to:

  • Facilitate Merchandising/Sourcing Team’s day to day operations in line with Headquarters strategy and expectations
  • Coach the Merchandising/Sourcing Team to maximize work efficiency and achieve business targets
  • Excels in negotiation with suppliers to achieve department turnover and margin targets
  • Excellent Project and Process Management Skills with an objective to drive continuous improvement in daily operations
  • Act as facilitator across categories and countries, thanks to strong knowledge in terms of the Southeast Asian/South Asian market and respective applicable language skills
  • Identify strategic manufacturing opportunities across countries and support business implementation based on findings

What you'll do
The holder of the position is mainly responsible for the following areas in coordination with his / her superior:
  • Facilitate Merchandising/Sourcing Team operations across categories
  • Monitor the end-to-end operation, ensuring supplier base, pricing, sampling, production quality and on time delivery is in line with Buyer’s needs
  • Responsible for ensuring the selection critical path is being monitored, supported and maintained by all levels within the merchandising team and through day to day liaison with supporting departments and external parties
  • Monitor and support the SMs in selecting the appropriate suppliers for sample development allocation, price quotation and recommendation of order placement, with ongoing monitoring of the capacity and business allocation throughout
  • Support the SMs in effectively negotiating the best prices for the products they buy and setting the right selling price for the Buyers under the framework of Headquarters
  • Analyse and report to GM, sales and profit performance
  • Develop and ensure successful execution of Headquarters strategies to achieve target growth in department turnover and margin
  • To actively participate in cross-divisional process improvement initiatives
  • Conduct market research and benchmarking to develop new business and product categories
  • Review the viability and performance of suppliers T&A plans and ensure they are fully adhered to by all responsible parties
  • Continually seek to find effective ways to reduce lead times without compromising the quality of the end product
  • Be a confident, motivational, personable, open manager, who can support and coach a large team to reach their own and the business goals

What you'll need
  • University graduate in Business Administration or related discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years of merchandising experience and at least 5 years of Management experience and with proven experience in leading a large team
  • Experience in a western, mass market, value brand either in Asia or abroad
  • Technical knowledge in production and capable to solve issues with supply chain, quality and responsiveness
  • Strong leadership, supervisory and motivation skills
  • A strong negotiator with a commercial mindset and the ability to understand the broader picture
  • Team player with interest to innovate, collaborate and excel in a fast paced environment
  • Problem solving skills, with the ability to seek advise when required
  • Excellent English language skills, Additional language skill will be beneficial
  • Excellent skill in MS Office (specifically Excel and Power Point)
  • Willing to travel (4-8 weeks per year in Asia and Europe)
