[What the role is]
We seek an experienced and highly motivated researcher to further expand and strengthen the vector-borne disease research programme at the Environmental Health Institute (EHI), National Environment Agency (NEA).

[What you will be working on]

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of researchers focusing on vector-pathogen interactions, vector biology, arbovirology, molecular biology and novel vector control tools. In addition, you will design and implement multi-disciplinary research that will explore the underlying factors affecting biting arthropods\xe2\x80\x99 ability to transmit pathogens and their role in the emergence and evolution of pathogens. By integrating expertise from various fields, your work will enhance our understanding of the capacity of local biting arthropods to transmit and spread endemic and exotic pathogens. Findings will contribute to developing evidence-based public health intervention plans to mitigate vector-borne disease risk in Singapore.

You are required to apply advanced concepts and technologies to innovate and develop new methodologies related to vector-pathogen interactions. You will also be involved in other studies to support Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s vector surveillance and control programme and expected to publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The successful candidate will be working closely with international and local scientific experts. Excellent communication (written and oral), leadership skills and sound judgement are required.

[What we are looking for]

The job might be for you if you possess the following qualities:

  • PhD in Medical Entomology, Biology, Virology or related disciplines
  • Knowledge and expertise in biting arthropods\xe2\x80\x99 biology, virology, molecular biology and the field of vector-pathogen interactions
  • A record of high-quality scientific research in related fields, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Experience in insectary work, including colonising arthropods and vector-pathogen interaction research studies, will be an advantage
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities concurrently
  • Able to work independently and collaborate effectively across multiple cross-functional teams
  • Self-driven and open to development opportunities
  • Able to work staggered hours or after office hours, weekends and public holidays
