Job Summary

Portfolio Management role involves defining a designated supplier & proprietary product portfolio strategy and ensures that this product portfolio meets the needs of the Lab Customer/Sales organization and delivers financial performance. The candidate will improve Avantor’s value proposition to customers by evaluating innovative trends, products, suppliers, define a strategy that takes into account our local presence and distribution capabilities, and drive the portfolio successfully in the region with clear messaging (marketing) and execution (relation with suppliers, regulatory, supply chain).
Portfolio Management is a key capability for Avantor globally and the role will require alignment with the teams supporting Americas and EU. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Fully own the development of a product portfolio serving APAC markets through onboarding new suppliers & driving internal Avantor innovation in line with Global lab products strategy
  • Prepare & help execute growth plans backed by solid investment proposals with focus on key financial metrics - ROI, NPV, IRR, payback.
  • Review current range of Avantor and VWR products portfolio and define a designated product portfolio strategy to meet the needs of the Customer and Sales.
  • Develop a strategy at APAC level by consolidating input from the sub-region and leveraging the NA and EU capabilities. APAC should improve access to EU / NA portfolio as well as propose APAC portfolio to EU /NA as part of a Global portfolio Strategy
  • Review and monitor all competitor ranges and the market. Identify major gaps in product portfolio and add products primarily through own manufacturing team and existing or new OEM suppliers where necessary to fill these gaps.
  • M&A – Identify potential vendors that should be considered as part of our M&A pipeline review process – regionally or globally
  • New Product Introduction – Manage the overall process across the Region, and be the APAC contact point for NA / EU portfolio introduction to APAC (including from M&A)
  • Define and Clarify RACI between Strategic portfolio, and local portfolio and Field Marketing activities, Strategy (Market Intelligence) and Commercial Excellence (pricing) in the region.
  • Review costs and competitive position with range. Constantly review with manufacturing, sourcing and OEM suppliers to maintain competitive costs so the brand can be positioned as a true price performance brand while maintaining high margins.
  • Develop Marketing campaigns in collaboration with the commercial teams.
  • Literature - Develop workflow or product specific literature (in collaboration with vendors when relevant) to support the Portfolio Products range and contribute technical know-how where needed to application and other literature. Collaborate with Marketing Communication for execution of campaign.
  • Supplier relationships - Work with sourcing to maintain the relationship with existing and find new OEM suppliers.
  • Manufacturing- Ensure the manufacturing team are aware of market developments and support where needed manufacturing development and investment plans
  • Be an ambassador for Avantor Business System – adopt and rigorously implement standard work, continuous improvement measures across key portfolio processes
  • Develop performance metrics and report-outs for multiple stakeholders & effectively communicate to various levels in the organization including executive leadership
  • Provide training to sales organization – When requested by sales organizations or Marketing, to provide training on the features and benefits of the Portfolio products
  • Customer exhibitions- Provide support to Marketing and sales teams if requested.
  • Product availability- Work with logistics to ensure products range availability is high and at agreed service levels. This may mean monitoring this availability, providing forecasts for new and recently introduced ranges and raising stocking requests as required.
  • Global Range - Work with North American/European colleagues to ensure the global brand and image is established and maintained irrespective of supply base.
  • Branding guidelines – Ensure they are implemented by manufacturing and OEM suppliers and monitor
  • Product documentation- Ensure all necessary product documentation is available and agree with suppliers/ manufacturing / other teams the best ways for this to be made available to customers in a timely fashion.
  • Product complaints- Monitor product complaints. Support technically where needed liaise with OEM suppliers and manufacturing, take action if needed to reduce compliments. Work with quality where needed to initiate product recalls, react to customer issues generated by complaints
  • Regulatory -Liaise with Regulatory and Product compliance teams to ensure implementation of changes does not inhibit sales of products and advise on supplier contacts and ensure disputes are resolved.
  • Master data- Ensure, where necessary correct master data (hierarchies etc) are maintained centrally
  • Sales Conference – work with Marcom to develop Annual Sales Conference content for Commercial associates – including vendor presence and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Graduation and Post-Graduation from top schools
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in Sales/Marketing in Chemicals/Lab/Pharma/Life Science Industry
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Fluent in Mandarin will be an advantage as this position will have close collaboration with Greater China suppliers and peers.
