What you'll do

The Communications Specialist (Marketing) plays a critical part in positively engaging colleagues in the Marketing BU, driving the right behavioural shift and cultural journey to support Marketing's reputation within Anglo American and with prospective talent.

You will work with the Manager - Communications to deliver a strategic, comprehensive and innovative employee communications and engagement plan, tackling key areas as defined by the Marketing Exco to cascade and embed key messages, foster and inclusive and connected culture inspired by our values, and help surface key Marketing stories to share with the team and across the broader Anglo American Group.

Employee Communication and Engagement - Global

  • Drive regular employee communications rhythm, including quarterly all employee calls, CEO Q&A sessions and other ad-hoc employee engagement opportunities. This includes partnering with colleagues beyond immediate team to develop content, manage virtual platforms and coordinate support across different stakeholders.
  • Supervise and curate employee facing content, coordinating dissemination across all Marketing internal communications channels, including newsletter, leadership blog, intranet page. Maintain channels relevant, user-friendly and updated.
  • Coordinate leadership communications and activation programme, with the objective to rally extended Marketing Leadership Team around business strategy and priorities.
  • Partner with P&O colleagues to maintain rhythm on email traffic and people change announcements, ensuring the right level of visibility for organisational developments at all levels.
  • Partner with P&O colleagues to drive engagement plan around employee feedback gathering, global engagement survey and follow up actions.
  • Regularly measure and assess effectiveness of employee communication strategies, plans, campaigns, channels and content to drive employee engagement and alignment within the Marketing BU, to share best practice and to establish a clear understanding of Marketing's priorities.
  • Partner with Marketing Global Committees to drive engagement and visibility around key campaigns on inclusion & diversity, safety and mental wellbeing, and sustainability.
  • Develop and implement, in collaboration with the Group Corporate Communication team, appropriate communication content and materials that help educate employees across Anglo American about the Marketing BU, its progress and success stories.
Office Communications Coordination - Singapore
  • Support positioning of Anglo American as an employer of choice in Singapore, coordinating messaging in alignment with Marketing narrative to support participation in career fairs and other recruitment opportunities.
  • Partner with P&O colleagues to run office engagement activities
Group Support / General
  • Act as liaison with Group Employee Comms and Engagement Team, representing Marketing BU for milestone projects such as global engagement surveys, reward and recognition and other relevant projects.
  • Provides support to the Safety Communications Team during and as part of major global initiatives such as Safety 365, WeCare and Global Safety Day.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to showcase the Marketing BU across Anglo American channels.
  • Coordinates roll-out of Group communication programmes/initiatives across the Marketing BU.
  • Builds constructive working relationship with internal peers across BUs
Qualifications

What we're looking for
  • Degree educated with a qualification in a relevant subject area, e.g. communications, humanities, PR.
Specific Knowledge requirements:
  • Managing internal communication in a large, multinational organisation
  • Mining or extractives industry (preferable)
  • Driving consistent communication messages either at Group level or within business units, ensuring alignment and approvals are in place
  • Experience within a complex organisation across different countries and jurisdictions, cultures, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of working on social media/social intranets
  • Communications issues and their impact on employee engagement, strategic positioning, brand and marketing
  • Delivering of integrated external affairs strategies for front line projects of major multinational companies.
  • Experience of working at different levels across the organisation from corporate head office to business unit to project and understands the balance between process, governance and practical delivery.
Ability to:
  • Use a range of measurement and evaluation strategies and techniques.
  • Use excellent writing skills to develop effective messages, tailoring for different audiences taking account of national, local and cultural sensitivities.
  • Effectively use project management techniques to successfully deliver global and cross commodity projects.
  • Deliver end-to-end internal and external marketing and customer communication campaigns, from taking the brief and developing a plan to measuring results.
  • Lead change programmes from a behavioural change and employee engagement perspective.
  • Apply a highly creative and innovative approach to communication in a practical and achievement-focused way
  • Develop communication strategies and plans and translate them into solid, practical delivery programmes
