We're seeking a Development Manager who thrives on the challenge of working across multiple projects and wants to be at the forefront of leading web technologies.
Reports to: Senior Manager, Engineering
OVERVIEW:
Responsible for the day-to-day management and smooth operation of the developer team, including site launches and online tools/web application development and other project management requirements. The Development Manager ensures all development resources are effectively coordinated and allocated to meet all business requirements.
The Development Manager will play an important role working across a variety of projects within the business. The role involves early stage project scoping and problem solving across our core website CMS platforms, as well as work on new platforms and digital features leveraging external API’s. The development manager role is approximately 60% coding, 40% management.
The Development Manager will work closely with and report directly to the Senior Manager, Engineering.
Responsibilities:

• Directly manage our team of 6+ developers.
• Be heavily involved with new developments, taking responsibility for the effective briefing of projects to the development team, and their delivery.
• Lead the translation of new project scopes into initial project requirements and resource requirements.
• Assign tasks to junior developers such as coding, testing, debugging, and analytics.
• Participate in development meetings and help guide the functional development
• Contribute ideas that will help each website's continued growth
• Lead the training and supervision of the developer team.
• Highlight potential risks or malfunctions and act proactively to resolve issues
• Seek opportunities for improvement and suggest new projects
• Communicate effectively with the development team
• Work on other duties and responsibilities as assigned
• Work closely with and be the first point of contact with server provider
• Develop and maintain best practice standards and management of Github
• Finalise and maintain a standardised code framework for development team, Including css and resulting style guides.

Required Skills

• This is an exciting role that will appeal to someone who is passionate about progressing their web development career. The candidate will have the following skills:
• 5 years + experience building websites, working both front and back end
• Advanced project management skills
• Experience in briefing and managing software development projects.
• Experience training staff on software use.
• Proven ability in developing a site end-to-end
• Strong experience with PHP frameworks such as Laravel
• Expert level at HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON and Github
• Good working knowledge of MySQL and other database management systems
• Experience with working with different CMS’s such as Joomla, Drupal, WordPress
• Experience with ecommerce platforms and payment gateways
• Ability to utilise APIs to create custom web apps
• Collaborative working style
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and synthesise information in a fast-paced environment is essential
• Experience with AWS or Google Cloud is advantageous
• Be confident, resourceful and able to function with minimal supervision
• Be pro-active and highly organised
• Ability to solve coding problems creatively
• Have attention to detail
• Be able to multi-task and prioritise effectively
• Have demonstrated ability to learn quickly
• Be effective when working under pressure
