This role will report to the Assistant General Counsel and work closely with business units and internal stakeholders to advance and protect Singtel\'s business. The Legal Counsel acts as a strategic legal partner to the business units solving problems creatively and resolving their legal needs. He/she should demonstrate strong willingness to engage in, and take the lead for, building creative strategies and solutions to legal and commercial issues to support organisational management and growth. He/she will support the implementation of policies, procedures, and best practices by gaining a thorough understanding and compliance with internal practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide sound legal advice in a fast paced and dynamic working environment to business units within the Networks, IT and Property groups of Singtel.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts with particular focus on IT, mobile networks, and property related transactions.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and address feedback on commercial contracts and operational issues.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to increase efficiency in contract reviews.
  • Provide legal education and trainings to business units; and manage compliance programs and policies/procedures.
  • Handle on-going contract issues and change management, provide interpretation to support implementation and recommend changes and best practices.
  • Manage disputes and litigations matters.
Requirements
  • Law degree (Singapore or other recognized law school)
  • Minimum of 7-10 years post qualification experience (PQE) acquired in a reputable local law firm or in-house with property development/construction experience and familiar with leasing and building facility contracts. Background in dealing with IT related contract e.g. purchase of software/hardware is a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of local laws and regulations with particular emphasis on telecommunications, IT, real estate matters including construction of buildings and building facility contracts.
  • Strong ability to draft and negotiate commercial contracts, and able to lead in negotiations.
  • Strong legal/contract analytical skills with a good eye for detail and sound knowledge of general corporate and contract law.
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to interact with all levels of management.
  • Self-starter, proactive and able to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team in a dynamic and fast paced environment to meet critical deadlines.
