The combined team has embarked on an expansion of its mandate, with greater breadth and depth of its activities. As a result we have several roles to cover both existing and new duties across strategic risk appetite as well as risk framework & policies review and challenge. The roles are multifaceted often requiring problem solving and conceptual integration of a number of topics from risk appetite to policies and frameworks. The candidates will be executives in the team. The team review and challenge all components of the risk appetite, as well as the risk governance codified in the frameworks, policies, and standards. Risk appetite work concerns the implementation and maintenance of the Group and SC Bank risk appetite and governance. The policy work ensures that clear standards are set for frameworks and policies, and these are adhered to. Both areas involve a cascade to countries, legal entities or businesses and therefore lead to close cooperation with other business lines, country and legal entity management. A Senior Manager in the team is expected to be able to manage a vast range of stakeholders across the organisation. You will gain broad exposure across the organisation and provide visibility into the Group's activities and risk profile, new business initiatives, operating model changes and capabilities. Strategy The immediate priorities are twofold: to deepen the assessment of portfolio risks across business lines and to design an efficient governance model which addresses the materiality of legal entities and countries to the group while fulfilling requirements of parent and host country regulators. The role holder will support or drive one or several of: execution and strengthening of the Risk Appetite approach, for example the effective setting and monitoring of RA, stakeholder engagement and communications, and workflow improvements change initiatives related to the transformation of the RA framework into an integrated, materiality focused and SMART approach (specific, material, actionable, relevant and time-bound) simplification of Risk Sub-types in consultation with key workstream leads and RFOs simplification of Standards to drive efficient risk management initiatives concerning the enhancement of the RA measurement toolkit, specifically in developing the links between risk appetite and strategy through systematic risk identification and stress testing Typical Risk Appetite activities Support the recurring RA processes including the review of risk appetite statements and associated metrics, emerging risk identification, public disclosures, the RA metric cascade and the corporate plan challenge Support risk profile analysis relative to appetite, in particular, strive to present a holistic view of the risk profile and significant trends by 'joining the dots' between reported metrics, business strategy and group resources Understand and be able to explain the risk appetite metrics, and the reported levels and assess progress with the remediation of breaches (including progress with delivery against remediation glide paths) Proactively engage with risk teams on a continuous basis to ensure that RA is being adhered to, and the emergence of new risks is assessed for inclusion in the Group Risk Appetite Statement Liaise with PRT RFO teams, stress testing and reporting teams to challenge and improve the measurement of portfolio risks, and to challenge or validate risk appetite thresholds Where potentially material risks are identified, support measurement of exposure through the initiation of management scenarios, and propose their inclusion to RA statement if needed Provide analysis as and when requested for Group level committee papers Review and challenge Corporate Plan and Strategy to ensure alignment to RA Typical Frameworks, Policies and Standards activities Review Risk Type Frameworks (RTFs) to ensure they cover key components of the risk management cycle Review and challenge policies to ensure that they address critical risks, are principle based, can be tested for effectiveness, empower decision making and have been written with the end user in mind. Oversee policies to ensure that interconnectedness of risks is understood, and clearly defined Challenge where RTFs or policies are unclear, impracticable or duplicative. Oversee the rollout of ERMF and RTFs to countries, branches and banking subsidiaries, including regular communications, tracking and monitoring of adoption Review and challenge critical Standards to ensure that key principles in parent policies or RTFs have been appropriately operationalised Processes Provide oversight for key processes. Ensure processes are adequately captured, monitored and reported within the Operational Risk Framework. Co-ordinate the required review processes Ensure any breaches to RA are reported on a timely basis, along with remediation status People and Talent Establish good working relationships with key stakeholders within and outside or risk Help to develop peers and junior colleagues by sharing knowledge and upskilling Risk Management Ensure operational risks associated with Risk Appetite activities are mitigated advise on control strength and drive improvements Oversee the quality of the analytical review & challenge undertaken by junior team members On change initiatives, drive the engagement with project managers and technology on workflow automation Ensure policies/procedures are adhered to Governance Ensure controls are set to mitigate operational risks associated with Risk Appetite activities and processes Provide quality control and review and challenge on team output as a checker for key processes Regulatory & Business Conduct Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct. Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Our Ideal Candidate 10+ years of experience in risk analytics, reporting, modelling or risk appetite analysis Experience and knowledge of Risk Appetite development and risk assessment Strong creativity, problem-solving and analytical abilities Excellent inter-personal skills comfortable in building relationships across teams, with outstanding written and oral communication skills Strong analytical and data interpretation skills Confident self-motivated person with a high level of drive and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment Role Specific Technical Competencies Sense of focus and rigour in the completion of deliverables Ability to drive change to business practices, processes or frameworks Ability to navigate a complex organisational matrix characterised by many organisational, seniority, cultural dimensions Self-starter with the ability to prioritise and multi-task in a dynamic environment Articulate and persuasive, can provide insightful strategic risk commentary to senior stakeholders Solid understanding the group's operating environment, products, footprint and strategic direction, and can map these into implications for risk identification and risk appetite Hands on experience in corporate and institutional banking, or retail banking. Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of portfolio risk assessment and portfolio management tools such as risk-return optimisation. Understanding of regulatory capital concepts. Ability to identify, assess, monitor, control and mitigate risks in a portfolio. Experience in delivering and implementing complex solutions. Awareness of the regulatory framework in which the firm operates. Knowledge of programming languages and macro programming on excel using VBA. Knowledge of MS SQL, MS Access is desirable.
