Neste is the number one producer of renewable diesel from waste and residues and aims to maintain this global leadership by further growing the raw material pool and production platforms. To support these ambitious targets we set up an Innovation Centre in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The new APAC Innovation Centre is located in Science Park II in the west part of Singapore. Once operational, the centre will focus on analytical and feedstock research as well as partnerships and opportunities for new innovations in the APAC area. Approximately 40 researchers and other professionals will be hired gradually from 2022 to 2025 to the Innovation centre, which will be fully operational from 2023 onwards.

We are looking for a Senior Researcher with competences in analytics and collaboration with external laboratories to join our Analytics team in Neste Asia Pacific (APAC) Innovation Centre Singapore.

We are seeking a highly motivated and capable person to join the Analytics team and drive the establishment of the Neste APAC Innovation Centre. An essential part of the Analytics team\'s future work is to provide special analytics, to develop and apply new analytical methods and participate in troubleshooting. Analytics team also supports internal stakeholders in the qualification of external laboratories.

The position requires a 1-3 weeks induction period in Finland.

Your part in Neste journey

As a researcher, Analytics (50% of the working time), you will be responsible for

  • qualitative and quantitative analytics of renewable feedstocks
  • planning, carrying out and supervising analyses, processing of results and reporting
  • method development and validation
  • maintenance of the laboratory infrastructure and planning of the equipment investments together with the other laboratory personnel
About 50% of your working time is allocated to applying and coordinating the process of external laboratories collaboration and acting as an expert between external laboratories and supply/supply development and other stakeholders. This may include e.g. conducting proficiency tests, laboratory qualifications and audits as well as method transfer activities.

You will work in cross-functional teams with other researchers, development engineers and project managers from R&D and stakeholders in e.g. Renewable Products\' supply and production, and also with external partners. Our work combines accountability, cooperation, and the desire to develop and renew. Working safely at all times is essential to all of us. You will report to the R&D Manager, Analytics of APAC Innovation Centre.

Keys to success in this role

The best combination of experiences, skills and background is
  • At least Master\'s degree in analytical or organic chemistry (or other similar relevant)
  • Solid experience in organic chemistry and organic analysis techniques (e.g. GC-MS, GCxGC, LC-MS/MS, GPC, FTIR, ICP-MS/MS, IC, Coulometry, CHN, XRF)
  • Experience in method development and validation
  • Solid knowledge and experience in research and troubleshooting
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Proactivity, can-do attitude and a high motivation to get things done
  • Fluent communication skills in English
  • 5-10 years experience in researcher or scientist position
Organising skills and ability to manage several tasks at the same time

  • Doctoral degree in analytical or organic chemistry (or other similar relevant)
  • Interest to grow professionally
  • Broad knowledge in different analytical methods
  • Skills in data-analytics and mining
  • Experience in mentoring/teaching
  • Experience in setting up a new laboratory

  • Experience working with flammable materials/hazardous chemicals
  • Network to academia, research institutes, companies e.g. service laboratories and laboratory equipment suppliers
