Who we are
Talbot is an international insurer and reinsurer operating within the Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s market through Syndicates 1183 and 2019. Syndicate 1183 underwrites multiple classes of business including Political Violence/Terrorism, Marine and Aviation War, Energy (off-shore and on-shore), Marine and Energy Liability, Hull, Cargo and Specie, Political Risk, Property, Accident and Health, Financial Lines, Cyber, Alternative Risks, Non-Physical Cyber and Treaty Reinsurance.

Syndicate 2019 reinsures premium written by AIG\xe2\x80\x99s Private Client Group, covering Homeowners, Auto, General Specie and other products.

About the role

What you need to know:
The Operations Manager will be responsible for:


  • The smooth and efficient running of the Singapore operation to ensure that the systems work in tandem with operational strategies.

  • Ensuring adherence by TRSL to the risk and compliance framework. Monitoring and updating processes and procedures ensuring delivery of consistent data and information.

  • Responsible for organisational effectiveness; working alongside the Processing Services unit \xe2\x80\x9dPS\xe2\x80\x9d and other members of the management team/Group in order to effectively implement organisational and departmental strategies, policies and practices.

  • Management of the local credit control and disbursement team, IBA, including assigned duties for credit control, payment checking and authorisation.


Responsibilities are:

  • Responsible for the update, management, quality control of local and internal procedural documentation and adherence to/by Singapore personnel including but not limited to underwriter compliance with the various trading jurisdictions using tools available such as Crystal and World Check.

  • Enforce and improve underwriting administration standards as and where required to include but not limited to contract certainty, data quality and integrity, underwriting operation performance and gross premium monitoring.

  • Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of the organizations mission statement specifically, support better management reporting and information flow.

  • To be responsible for the operational activity of TRSL and implementation of \xe2\x80\x9cchange\xe2\x80\x9d process across the business.

  • Liaise with other Group/functional/departmental managers so as to understand all necessary aspects of the organisational development of the business, and ensure that this is implemented, communicated and adhered to by Singapore personnel as required.

  • Liaise, as necessary, with the various departments of the Talbot Group to facilitate and enable the office of TRSL to run smoothly and efficiently.

  • To be responsible for \xe2\x80\x9cexception reporting\xe2\x80\x9d surrounding the SLA\xe2\x80\x99s of the business and to provide routine management information to the team, locally and to Talbot Group entities as required.

  • Administer TOBA requirements and perform checks on new broker/cedant applications through regulatory sources before submitting to Compliance for approval. Maintain and monitor approved and new applications for brokers/cedants and secure terms of engagement and/or terms of trade as required.

  • To be responsible for the maintenance and management of the BCP plan locally, ensuring compliance with Group policy.

  • Liaison between IRAS, MAS and Talbot Finance on regulatory matters. Oversee and help coordinate between the Talbot Group and TRSL to ensure that reporting and regulatory returns are completed in a timely manner (Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s, MAS, IRAS, FSA).

  • Conduct bi-annual third party binder reviews and complete required reports in respect of risk management.

  • Oversee and co-ordinate as required in company audits and reviews, both internal and external including formulation of responses and queries as required.

  • Play a key role in driving and promoting best practice.

  • Responsible for payment approvals and perform bank authorisation for a set limit specified by Finance.

  • Liaison for the Contract Certainty Work Group (CCWG). Data extract and prepare contract certainty logs to be submitted through CCWG portal. DMS search and entry on documentation completion dates that was performed by UTS.

  • Manage and administrate users for MASNET and CorpPass accesses.


What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:

  • Proficient in operations, project management, business and systems development experience

  • Budget planning and oversight experience

  • Proven track record of team management

  • Educated to degree level with ideally a management qualification

  • Shows other relevant professional qualification & career progression

  • Be able to demonstrate experience working within a commercial environment

  • Good knowledge of commercial insurance / reinsurance

  • Knowledge of local and Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s market practices and systems (preferred)

  • Insurance and/or Re insurance knowledge and experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrate commitment to high professional ethical standards

  • Excellent organisation, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Highly motivated with strong team working approach.

  • Ability to think laterally, challenge and debate issues of importance to the organisation

  • Ability to prioritize and work independently in an organized, methodical and structured manner
